How to sculpt hands in 54mm or smaller?

I used to work on larger 1/8 figures, but when it comes to 54mm or smaller, I'm really at a loss for how to sculpt hands. In the larger scale I used thin wire as an armature, but does anyone do this at 54mm? I find that the material I use just crumbles as I sculpt the finger shapes as it's too small. I use tamiya epoxy and la doll clay.

Yep, you can. It's harder because finding wire that thin is obviously a problem, plus on top of that it won't have much stiffness more than likely. So the rolled-out sausage of putty might be the way go to (I'm presuming you need separate fingers, other methods work better if the fingers are together or the hand is gripping something).

Recent post on pF showing the basic method can be used smaller, although this isn't as small as 1/32 scale.

If the Tamiya stuff consistently breaks then you might want to consider getting something better. The doll clay, is that a polymer clay? If so very much not suited to things this thin as a rule.

Try both. I'd use my finger more than likely (more control). If the fingerprint marks were a problem I'd either try using the side of a finger or wearing gloves/finger cots.
