How To: Pure Witch Hunters

Gday all,

Well, i have started to collect a Witch Hunters force for a tournament next year. I have only a few squads, but hope to expand on that in the near future. I have been reading through many Forums (including CMON:p) for the \'tactics\' on Witch Hunters. Although, unfortunatly these sites have been no help to me whatsoever because they suggest that i use the forces of IG and SM to help the Sisters in their fight for the Imperium. Alas, my goal for my Witch Hunters force is to have an army of complete Sisters, without any other help from any of the other Imperial forces. But, i do not have a clue where to start or what to get, it has been a while since i have played 40K and was wondering what i should purchuse and include in my force. I will begin with 1000pts but hope to continue to 2000pts or further if i get a good \'grasp\' on my Witch Hunter force. Any Suggestions???

Are you going to go pure sisters, or are you going to use the witchhunter stuff like penitent engines as well.

For pure sisters, you will need to get faith points. these will help in more ways than one.

I would take 2 big squads of sisters the hq that gives you 2 faith points and 2 exorcists.

I don\'t have an army book around, so I can\'t be much more help than this. the other site to check is 40konline.com. That forum should be able to give you a lot of help.

Cheers Hoblit, I apolgise for the miss understanding, i ment a pure Witch Hunter army.

Thanks for the advice, i will include lots of superiors to get my Faith Up:):)

Faithpoints and good HtH.
However absolute swines to keep upright without weighted bases .

Plus on Seraphim the bonus of being able to jump out of HtH and then on the next turn charge back in. As for the force Heavy Flamers in squads (got to love Assault weapons). Oh as Im thinking about it, MOUNT YOUR SQUADS. rhinos or Immolators, I have the worst luck getting into the fight, and as I move up getting shot to pieces. also as more as a fluff/fun thing Sister Supeiors bolt pistol/plasmapistol and power weapon or (dang it, cannt think of the propper name) brazier of holy flame? the hand to hand/ one shot flame weapon.

I also like to use them, but more in an anti-vehicle role. Once their prime target is accomplished, I then use them as support and reinforcements. They only have 3 in toughness, they\'re not marines, death can kiss them easily.

Remember you can not have have Space mariens and Adaptis Soritus in a Witch Hunter List so no sisters and mariens...

Ok my Sujestions (3 years of playig sisters of Battle before witchunters)

Cannoness W/ Retinue
(nessessity) gives 3 faith points as well as the cannoness able to take \"litanies of the faith\" four a free faith test. Rember to take the Imagifyer if you are going to mount these models in a veichle.

Ordo Inquisitor Lord
Nice if you are playing lots of points to give you access to the Land Raider and Orbital Strike....

Priest
Another Nessesity to the army if you want to take any non-sister Unit. However it MUST be attached to a unit and he is always to have considered moved... I place him with Zealots (chapter approved) or with repentia if there are enough points on the table

Celestials
Yes- Nuff Said The are full SM stats and give a faith point just being on the table.no need to make a Vet supprerior here because unit causes faith not model

Agro Flaggrents
Every time I use them I getr my points worth out of them, Sure They kill themselves off... but I have yet have lost them uselessly... D6 power wepon attacks and a fleet of foot... makes them worth the points just remember any 6 kills them...

Repentians...
I like them, they are cool models and they can pack a punch IF they can live that long... THey get shot up on the way there and attack last in HtH however they take out tanks NICE... Just 20 points each is a bit much for them

Adaptus Soritus - Sisters
YES as many of these as you can get on the table... Bolters and Flamers Oh My (remeber your prayers and these are AP 1 on Wound rolls of 6\'s) I take units of the full 20 - ignore the imagifyer here, waste of points for what this unit is for.

Inquestal Guards
Occasionally- These are cheep and Iuse them the hold table corners, they are not your shock troups although 10- for 100pts makes them usefull in support rolls, just remember they are guard stats with nicer armor.

Zealots
MEAT SHIELD 5 point a model 20 models in a group I like these in higher point games, just dont expect them to last long once they get involved in a battle.

Domination Squad -
Overlooked by most... Something about a unit with 5 flamers or 5 Meltas or 5 storm bolters.. that just say die... These must be mounted I put them in the immolator... Twin Linked heavy flamers reroll wounds... take the imagifyer to get the AP ones rolls

Seraphims...
Death in FLight... MUST HAVE... Take meltabombs and twin hand flamers... target tanks these are your best tank busters in the game... no need to make a Vet supprerior here because unit causes faith not model

Exorists...
1d6 St:8 Ap:1 everything is a penatrating hit... however it never seams to give me the punch I need when I want it... the D6 is a drawback count it as only one missle a round when planning stradigy...

Retribution Squad-
Most realable heavy unit and it gives faith, and allows your multimeltas and heavy bolters... in a unit of 9 they are effective to stop some veichles... However I like to mount them in Immolators... The twin link multimelta or Heavy bolter choice for ranged support...

Orbital Strike
Nice if you can easily count on one piece of terrain as being critical... Stay away from the anti-pscionic torpido its alot of pointts for one or two modles in an army... Against Thousand suns is an exption but a rare one.... G for the lance strike S10 Ap1 Ordiance to get the full effect of the strike.

Pentitent Engines - AWSOME... But opened topped... Die as quick as Sentinals... HOWEVER get them into ranks of Troups and they are ruthless... you need to take a full squad though to give yourself a chance with them in combat...

this is my opinion of course.. In the last 5 Rouge Traders I have lost 1 of the 15 battles Masqicured 6 times and strong win 5 and marginal Victory 4 times...

My only advice is to watch out for Nurgle thier To:5 can take its toll in hand to hand with your st:3

This is the Inquisitor I take I dont have to load him up with retinue he just lets me take the Inquisotr only choices without costing a fortune...

Death Cult-
Only unit you can get that can infiltrate.. they can also kill very effectivly if used against the right group...

Assasins:
Vindicar- enough said

As for the Transports

Immolator is nice because it has the firepower to back it up but the 6 modles it carries makes it a hazzard for faith points unless you are trying for maryters and the low ones... take an imagifyer with any unit that gets mounted in an Immolator

Rhino... Keep your basic troups out of Rhinos, sisters are not about Rhino Attacks... however for full units of retribution, Domination, Celestials or even the command squad they are usefull as you useally need to get these people into a stragic possition then use the Rhino for cover after you are in possition...

i have been having 50/50 success with my Sisters, i am loving it when i play Xenos, or anything other then Marines, With Marines i have crap luck.
In My 500pt (Combat Patrol) List i have

14 Sisters (143)
Vet W/ Plasma Pistol (24)
= 167pt

6 Dominions (66)
Vet W/ Plasma Pistol (24)
2x Flamer, 2x S. Bolter (34)
W/ Immolator With Smoke Launcher (68)
= 161pt

9 Storm Troopers (90)
W/ Veteran (10)
W/ Grenade Launcher, W/ Flamer (15)
W/ Rhino W/ Smoke Launcher (53)
= 168pt

Any suggestions on that...

My 1000 point sister list

Try this list for 500 points...

10 sisters (flamers X2)
W/ Vet Plasma and Power weapon (134)

10 sisters (flamers X2)
W/ Vet Plasma and Power weapon (134)

Cannoness W/ retinue in Imolator w/ Multimelta (????)

Gives you 5 faith points...
Gives you Bolters instead of hellguns always a +++
And you the Celstals are mariens in stats instead of the Dominions... You should still be able to have two storm bolters in the Celestail Retinue...

Remember in a 500 point game... You really need to have as many core choices on the table... And with sisters the things that make them invaluable is thier prayers... so having 3 units and 5 prayers... you should do better against marriens... remember let them assult you so you can rapid fire on them before they get to you...

Now that I have played oth special Characters

I do not like the Living Saint...
Something about loosing all faith when she leaves the table...

The Inquisitor LORD however... put Death company in its place... hehehe.... Inqestrial Mandate and 3 Penitant Enngines and him... hehehe.... Aww cant hurt the Penitnents Armor 11 in HtoH except the powerfist.... awww I roll first... oh look I get 14 attacks... oh wait Inquestral mandate... make that 17 St 10 Ap 1 Attacks... Oh I hit with 10 man now I need to 2 make them go bubbye? Oh you still have a couple standing lets see what the Powersword can do...

ReallY I found the Lord worth the points... He is a real badass...

The Saint can be a badass.. but if you know what she does its like shooting a tau etheral... or a Necromancer in an Undead Army.... the first target...

I was really thinking about including the Inquisitor Lord in a 2000pt list, i have seen battle reports with him in it and watched games with him being used and he Kicks Ass:)

Sisters of Battle (about 4000 points)
GreyKnights ( about 2000 Points)
Death Guard (about 1500 Points)
Emporer\'s Children (about 1500 Points)

Fantasy
Slannesh Deamon Army (1000 Points)
Wood Elves (Inital Army Box about 2000 points)

Does not include my 7 Modihiem Warbands...

It starts with 7 faith which I think is a lot in 1000pts.

Hi!

I use Pure WH against my Dark eldar \"friend\". I\'ve just played 600pt match:

Canoness: blessed weapon(must), inferno pistol(tank), litanies of faith(must), st. Aspira cloak(good if you have points).

2x Inquisitorial troops (5 each one)
Plasma-carrier squads. \"Cheap\".

2x Celestian (6-7 sister squad)
They can do everything... BOLTER :D

and... Exorcist
everything you can\'t destroy with your girls, try with him. The hunter-killer missile is a great surprise for him (illimited range, usually a Destroyed Raider).

I use my little-but-a-lot-of Squads to get to them not really fast, but I fire anytime I can. The canoness herself can destroy the Big guys, and the celestians are usually effective in combat. Use faith points wisely.
