Hi guys, I got a SM model i am trying to paint up nice, more than just TT level. I want his Chainsword to have those black and yellow warning strips. But unfortunately i have no clue how to get it to look good. Can anyone give me some ideas? or a how to guide. I hope you guys can help cause I am going to need it.

The important thing is to use a light background for the yellow.

Either start painting the surface yellow (base, shadow, & highlight) on a white surface and then add black diagonal lines.

Or start painting black (base & highlight) and then apply white lines as primer for the yellow.

Then all you need is a steady hand, good eyes, a sharp brush tip, and patience. Good luck.

Looks like maskin tape for me. My problem is that i already primed it black so it would hard to get a light color unless i painted a grey over top and then tryed to go from there. Hmmmm this will take some time but it is a test i shall pass.

For base I\'ll suggest a yellowbrown with good coverage. Like GW Vomit brown. And then do the yellow stripes.

I\'ve heard some rumours that GW will be releasing a new yellow too.. which actually covers well..

I personally would go for black on yellow, although less forgiving if you get the shakes half way through?

Just remember to thin down the paint for the stripes. More coats will definitely look better and a thinned paint will give you more control.

Unfortunatlly freehand is the best way with black on yellow over a light undercoat (or a yellow brown as was suggested by Avelorn). The really fun part happens when you highlight each of the yellow stripes along the black edge. While technically there would be no special highlight along this edge because there is no ridge I find it just doesn\'t look right without one as the black/yellow seperation is to harsh.

go with avelorn Browny colour first vomit brown actually makes a good yellow if you highlight with bleached bone and do some light yellow glazes..
The new yellow mentioned is an interesting little side thing gw have been developing for beginner paint sets colours that go on plastics when thinned without using undercoats and hold on the model when dry could be useful.

This is my preferred way of doing it. Perhaps I will write up an article...

1. My favorite way is to start with a black base. It will be easier to do your touch ups in the last step if you are painting black over yellow. Trust me on this.

2. I then lay my stripes in roughly with a base coat of Space Wolves Gray. This will cover better than plain white.

3. Cover the SW Gray with a few light coats of white untill it is solid.

4. Cover with your yellow of choice. I use Golden Yellow and highlight any edges by adding white.

5. CAREFULLY fix up the edges of your stripe with black. If you have an uneven and too thick yellow stripe it is much easier to make it thinner than make a thin stripe wider.
