how to paint flat areas like bone

any tips on how to get this kind of effect:

on a flat (well sort of flat) area like the carapace of an eldar jetbike, anyone actually done this and have pics to help me out? any help would be great on this thanks!

Use very, very diluted paint and draw streaks like that on the flat surface (who should have some basic shading and highlighting already done). The paint should be so thin that you hardly see anything from a single brush stroke. Once you\'ve done a few you\'ll begin to notice the appearance of \"texture\". It\'s important to not overload the brush with paint. Soak excess paint off the brush with a bit of texture before applying the strokes.

Very cool pic, and texture effect...

I\'ve been trying my luck on large flat surfaces, for the Tau.. gun drones are hell!!! But since you actually WANT some streaks to show up to build upon, it might be EASIER... I\'m trying to blend Black - to - Bleached bone smoothly across the Gun Drone surface, its tough.

But dilute the hell out of your paints, and seriously for a sruface as large as a jet bike, do not be surprised if you need to apply A LOT of layers... I did like 15-20 layers on my gun drone... and it wasn\'t enough.
