How to do swinging chains?

I\'ve been working on a ogre kingdoms army with a dwarf slayer theme. It is coming along very well, but i have decided I want to do a doom seeker:

This is as far as I have gotten:

Problem is I dont know how to do the swinging chain. Anybody have any ideas on where to get the chain or how to make it look like it is swinging through the air?

hmmm, I know people have used real chains in the past, and superglued where the the 2 links meet to make it stay put and also hold its shape.

I personally have not tried this yet though, so would reccomend doing a test run first.

Great idea BTW, any more pictures of your big Dwarves?

(also check out ogrebanes gallery, he has done a similar thing but with ogre bretonnians!)

Thanks.

I do have some more pictures. I just posted the first fully painted one on cmon a few minutes ago. Check out my gallery.

Welcome to the forums.

Another solution would be sculpt chains with a thin wire core. You first attach the wire, bend it to the desired flow, sculpt one plane of the chain (let it cure), and finally sculpt the perpendicular chain-plane.

Here are a few examples :

*) Orgre slave giant (green)
*) Ogre slave giant (painted)
*) Gobo powa (green)
*) Gobo powa (painted)

It\'s probably longer to do than the glued chain solution, but I think it\'s easier to control the flow you want to give to the chains.

Wow, I always wanted to do that with the goblins running a suit of mega armour.

The chains on that giant are great. That must take forever though, just waiting for each link to cure. I might give it a try though.

You don\'t need to do each link separately. You start with doing all the links that are in one plane, that is every other link. This will look like a thin strip where you can see the shape of the links along the edges. When this is cured you sculpt the connecting links on each side of this strip.

Also the new flaggelant set has loads of plastic chains in different sizes, and would be easy to bend with a bit of heat.

Don\'t know if you would want to spend money buying the box just for those bits though. Easier to get the reaper ones.
