Hi, when i clean my brushes after painting with metallic paints they always seem to keep the metallic flakes in them. How can i avoid this?
Thanks in advance ;)

is they are water based them warm water and some mild soap should do most of it.

you can wipe off excess paint on a tissue or napkin or something. and change your water every once in a while while painting.

for non water based use thinner or brush cleaner. then wipe off the excess on a tisue, and then clean with warm water and soap.

if you have paint where the brush meets the handle that happens often. if your brush can take it you may want to try a little rubbing alcohol on it. just use q-tip or cotton ball with alcohol on it and wipe handle->brush with it the alcohol will loosen the paint so that it comes off.

then you can was with warm soapy water to clean off the left over bits.

never put your brush into fingernail polish remove from my experience as the acetone can eat the glue holding the bristles onto the handle. :(

hope this helps.

hmm..

I am actually pretty hard on my brushes. I usually only give them a quick dunk in some clean water and then reshape the point (with my mouth)....But once every one or two weeks I really clean them with some dishsoap and warm water. I have also taken to using a product called Brush Conditioner. Even letting some soak overnight (laying flat) in the conditioner.

It seems to work pretty well, my latest brushes have held up for quite a while.

i have a small sponge with washing up liquid in which i clean my brushes with after rinsing. every now and then i use brush cleaner as well and leave it on for a few days to really clean off the crap. i\'m not saying they\'ll last for ever but it certainly adds a few months (or years with the amount i\'ve been painting lately)

I use a hard soap brush cleaner from an art store. I can\'t recall what it\'s called right now. You wet your brush and drag it around on the soap for a while then wipe off the sudds.
The amazing thing is taking a brush and washing it until it is spotless just using water. Then use the soap. The sudds will be the color of paint you were using, there\'s that much paint left in the brush.

Well, as a rule i try to NEVER let the paint get up into the point where the brissles touch handle. And i clean mine with normal old tap water, always from the handle, out to the tip. then i touch up the tip with a little saliva (i only lick paintless brushes). But then again, look at my ranting and decide if you want my adviselol
