So heres the deal. i have some great ideas for a chapter, not technically for playing, but for the paint job. I would LOVE to type out my ideas, share them with you guys and get yer input. BUT, I am very paranoid about someone taking the idea and running with it. Being relatively new here, Im not too sure if this is a good idea. So chime in, if you guys think that this is a sort of place where a reveal pre conversion and paint is a good idea that say I. If anyone has had bad experiences here and think I should paint, then reveal say Nay.:beer::)

Pre or post painting the idea may get used by someone else - the honest ones will say \"Hey thats a neat idea, may I use it?\"

While the others will just rip it off.

You could keep it all to yourself and hide the finished pieces in a locked box, covered in cement, and dumped into the middle of the ocean, confident that your scheme will never ever be ripped off.

Which is a lousy way to behave.

Eventually, somebody will be looking at your figures. Somebody might even like it enough to paint their own the same way. I\'d say not to worry. There\'s no trophy for best paint scheme, and CMON being one of those infinite-monkey type places, you probably won\'t be the first to think of it. It may not have been posted before, but someone will come along and say \"Oh, yeah, I had a friend that painted his the same way\".

So I say share your flash of insight into a really cool paint scheme. Deal with the fact that somebody will probably try to copy yours. It is inevitable.

id say go for it! trust me, if anyone snatchs your idea the last thing they will do is post it here, so id say your kinda safe, here atleast, as for someone going all out to copy your idea id say thats rare, they might get inspired or spark an idea of there own, maybe do one or two things close to what you did, and if you post it youll have a dated document to throw in thieving faces!lol

PM your idea to a few people, see if it\'s that unique or \'hot\'. They may be able to guide you on weather exposing your idea is wise or not.

A chapter = space marines?
How many original ideas are left with them?
Blood angels
lava angels
jade angels
ice angels
harley angels

It\'s probably been done. Paint up a few and post them. Get some feedback to see if you want to continue. If it is something new or even rare, you\'re probably going to be the only one at the tourney with that chapter - as opposed to the 10 guys with krylon red blood angels.

If your ideas inspire someone else then you should be pleased.

There will always be a inherent risk in exposing a new idea to the light of day.

I\'d say post it. The worst thing is that someone snags the idea and screws it up. The best idea are based on one persons core idea and added/ refined with the input of others. Well, that is my experience. Plus if you run into snags, someone here will be able to help. Just M2C, so take it or leave it.

i agree with mike if someone copies your idea then you should be pleased that someone thinks its so good that they do it themselves. But i havent seen many people on cmon that have copied someones ideas then posted them for there own.

I don\'t think people running away with your idea is going to be much of an issue here to be honest. Everyone seems to be up to their eyes in ongoing projects of their own so starting new ones isn\'t likely to happen. If they do decide they like your ideas and try to pass it off as their own here then we\'ll all know where it came from anyway and give them hell about it. Also if someone does copy it then so what? Just feel flattered that someone likes your idea and make sure you do your own stuff twice as good.

I\'ve lost count of the stuff I\'ve done that other people have used as inspiration for their own minis, I know at least two people who are making barrelboy units after seeing mine. OrkyDave copied my idea for the compass tattoo on his ogre pirate and because he finished his first everyone thinks he came up with it. Asside from some good natured ribbing about how he\'s a spawney thieving git I\'m quite happy that he\'s made such a good job of it. As some bloke said \"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery\".

Remember... this is a big planet... NO idea is original. At least in whole. Everyone has seen someone else use an idea they thought was original.

Thanks for the posts guys, I guess that did come off a little egocentric. My main concern is that Im slow and not very talented, so Id post the beginning and 12 others would finnish before me, LOL! Its not that my idea is THAT original, and not even that great a chapter; I just think I have some doozies that people will all recognize and think is cool. I will post a topic when I have either some sketches, or some rough minis. Thanks again guys.

yeah. who cares? consider it a compliment. i wish people would copy my ideas. i kind wish people would so i could see what i could come up with if i could paint!

I still wanna know how you got your dirty little hands on that model, is it out in blisters at all?

But Im forever using (not stealing) other peoples ideas, the difference is I never ( EVER EVER EVER) get anything finished, so its not a big deal.

That and I dont have a camera, so I cant post on here anyway.

Just go for it man, whats the worst that can happen?
