How much static grass should I buy?

I ask this for two reasons... 1, I'm a cheeky American and don't know how many grams will last me how long, and 2, I just don't know how big/small of a container to get. I know that a little goes a long way, but I don't know how little to go, especially when I'm buying from eBay, and can't get a good visual picture of how much stuff I'm actually getting.

What are you using it for? Just basing figures or creating elaborate terrain boards? This will obviously impact the amount you need.

Me, personally, I buy a large container and transfer it to a smaller shaker bottle. That way I always have plenty on hand, regardless of project.

Basing miniatures, primarily. I don't forsee myself getting into terrain boards or dioramas until I learn how to paint my miniatures ;)

The small "hobby round" of static grass from Gale Force 9 will last you for an entire lifetime if you're just using it on bases. My local train store sells them in huge jugs, which would be great for terrain but terrible overkill for basing minis.

Do you know how much (in weight) that would be? This way I can comparison shop...

Small container, probably around 8 grams? Gale Force 9 did not list any weights or container volume. GW sells their brand in 15g tubs. WoodlandScenics only lists the volume of the large container at 57.7 in³ (945 cm³) Shaker. I would say about 1/4 of what the WoodlandScenics container is, or half of the GW one would be what you are looking for.

Edit:
Found this on WoodlandScenics site for coverage:
One 25.2 cu in bag covers approximately 1,530 sq in or 10 sq ft
One 64.6 cu in shaker covers approximately 4,600 sq in or 30 sq ft

If you are in the US, don't rush out and by some just yet. Let me check my stock and see how much I have left. (I am assuming you are looking for standard green, I also have harvest gold and snow effects). If I have enough left, I can send you some. I'll check when I get home from work.
