Hi I was just wondering how all the WW2 modellers paint their tanks? I know some people use air brushes but I don\'t have access to one so don\'t bother telling me to get one. I have also heard that they paint the tank metal before applying the colour camoflage, is this true?

Dunno about painting metal, but many do use air brushes.

Basically its lots of layers and washes of paint, and many many layers of weathering. I\'ve seen some where the actual paint job makes up about 1/8 of the work and the rest is weathering effects.
There are lots of tutorials out there do a google search.

I think they would not paint the tank metal first. You could camo the entire tank, say with a Afrika Korps Desert Yellow spray (a can, not an airbrush), then you could go and apply \"paint chips\" with exposed metal by actually painting them on. Same with weathering or scratching the edges....

Mmmm. Tanks. Man, I still gotta get on that Tamiya 1:35 Panther I have.

Here\'s a site that could help, it\'s bigt and really informative. Gave me some insight to WW2 modellers. And it must be really hard to make one look as good as some of those in the gallery.

It\'s possible but not easy to paint a tank without an airbrush. As most weathering techniques involve washes of paints, they can very easily pick up brush marks.

Trevor\'s right, it is mainly weathering techniques. I used those techniques on my Rhino (CMON gallery link at bottom)

Good sites with how to articles are:

Missing Lynx

WW2 Model Maker

These sites are the CMON equivelent in the Tank Modelling world.

both have very good forums with very helpful people on them

hope thats useful
