holding a figure when painting

I am having trouble holding figures with a sold metal base because of the a lack of area to grip when painting. I tried to drill through the base but this stuff seems like Iron. Any suggestions on how to hold the figure so I do not have to touch the figure when painting?

Go to Michael\'s or Hobby Lobby and pick up some orange Elmer\'s Poster Putty (or whatever it is called) and a few pieces of unfinished craft wood of appropriate size (blocks or candlestick cups).

Break off a piece of the putty and massage it until warm. Then use it to attach the mini to the craft wood.

Note that some people put sand or rocks in a used pot of paint in place of the craft wood.

I put the blue tac on a big cap from laundry detergent, into which you can put the figure for travel or dust protection when you are not using it as a holder.

I use a big cork and pins made from paper clips or brass rod, all available at the hardware store.

If you don\'t like pinning, the poster putty will work but it\'s a bit less secure.

A crocodile clip is handy as long as you haven\'t already done the base, as it will likely scratch it up a bit.
