Hobby drill?

I\'m looking for a hobby drill that will take up to 2mm drill bits, does the GW one take this size? or any cheaper/better suggestions than GW?

The one that GW sells is good, I think. It contains a couple of different drill bits and you can change the socket so that you can use thicker bits as well. I have a set of drill bits for my Dremel that ranges from .5 mm up to 2 or 3 mm. I can use them in the pin vice as well, just by changing the socket (turn it the other way around) so that it can hold the thicker Dremel bits.

You may, of course, find a cheaper pin vice elsewhere, but I find it difficult to get that tool in regular hardware stores (at least where I live). Perhaps you can check in a \"regular\" hobby store if you have one nearby.

Lots :D

The last manual one I got a few years back was a ModelCraft double-ended one (with reversible collets too, so four sizes) but it\'s not listed on the page generulpoleaxe listed above unfortunately. One of the better ones I\'ve bought.

Another thing the pin vice is extremely useful for is acting like a handle for your miniature while you paint it. If you remove the tab, or whatever means the miniature have to attach it to a base, and replace it with a pin you can remove the drill bit from the pin vice and stick the miniature into it instead. That way you have a comfortable handle to hold the miniature by when painting.

Remind me not let you anywhere near any of my delicate resin miniatures that need pinning. :p

I was looking for manual, just wanting it for pinning, and to set some magnets into arms/guns etc. Think I may get the GW one just coz it has the r=rubberised handle, then just get some extra drill bits, as they only give you 1mm ones in the pack

True...and there have been some quality issues with them as well. Collets splitting, threaded sections tearing out of the handle and/or not fitting at all.

While the design is good there are better ones available if you hunt online.
Like these watchmakers pin vices

The type I meant is double ended both ends ;) Like this type:

The ModelCraft one I mean is available from here, [mppv1061 (ppv1061)].
