high ratings...maybe overvalued minis????

I can see that since a few months ago people is rating new minis with higher marks that before..
what do you think is happens.
I can understand that fine pieces of art like cyryl\'s last one , thenetweb, Joe hill\'s art, etc.. there are a lot of minis that deserves 8,5 or more...maybe because more and more people increase their level...but anyway..I find pieces that 6 months ago would be rated with an 8 or 8,5 and now they have 9 or more....
I consider that a 9 mini should be piece of art: original, well painted, modified, and something that transmite a feeling..but not only a well painted mini...and I cannot understand why people are rating new minis that are (obviously well painted) but that have not originallity or there are not something surprising or new...and they have 9 or more!!!!!!!!
why is that???.
someone can explain me?
I am starting to think that now is easier to achieve a 9 than 1 year ago...and for me this is not logical
???

I think you might be in a minority here..

To be honest, my impression from rating minis and accessing the forums is that the standard has got a lot higher if anything. I have noticed that a lot more VERY high quality work is being submitted on a regular basis.
I would be surprised therefore, if you get too many people agreeing with your assessment of the situation.

sorry finn but I didn\'t understand

I didn\'t understad what do you mean with this:\"I have noticed that a lot more VERY high quality work is being submitted on a regular basis.\"
excuse me but I don\'t speak well english and I couldn\'t translate it well.
sometimes is too difficult to translate because is not literal.
can you explain it please?.
thank you and sorry finn17.:(.

Sorry...

The standard of minis posted to this site has gone up in my opinion.

Many more talented painters are posting their work on this site.

Because of this I think that it is harder to get high scores than it was previously.

(I have a translation programme that I can use if you think that will help....You can always PM me)

while that is true finn i have noticed that minis are getting the respect they deserve a bit more.

i have been surprised to find minis rating higher than my score a bit lately. and i have mostly scored higher higher than most. until lately it seems.

i put it down to the peps actually doing some painting themselves and finding out how hard it really is.
that or they read these forums occaisionally. :D

Banshee: What is your native language? Perhaps I can help.

And, with regard to the rating of mini\'s, I\'d have to say that it\'s a lot harder to get a score that\'s above a 6?? Seems the painting and techniques are well improving, but the scoring of them is much, more harsh??:(

Nailpainter : I am from spain . thanks for your offer. you are so nice!. thanks!!!.:):D

I believe that there are some paint jobs that overvalued the same as the opposite: there are so much paintjobs that are underestimated.I think that a mini that is not converted and it is not original...should not be rated with more than 8,5.
and other tim I can see that if you mix all the colors of the world you can achieve a high mark instead the colours don\'t mix well together...I don\'t know if i express myself correctly..tell me if it isn\'t..

my rating system...

eons ago, i posted something like this:

1-2: beyond comprehension! disgusting and poorly taken photos
3-4: image too small to see much, paint slapping
5: moderate attempt at painting, clean but no highlighting and such
now the interesting part...
6: decent painting, attempt at highlighting, shading, good colour choice
7: good highlighting, shading, excellent colour choice, minor attempt at difficult techniques (eg. NMM), minor conversion
8: excellent highlighting, shading, superb colour combinations, good advance techniques, good conversion
9: what can i say!! unique, pro-standards
10: out of this world!!!
there was another thread ages ago about people who don\'t paint but vote...i don\'t wish to dig up buried bones but there is simply no relation (IMHO) and hence your assumption that cos of more people attempts at painting leads to higher scores...well, sorry but i don\'t think so.
Like what finn said, better quality images are submited. the ante had been raised and the gauntlet thrown. more articles are there to educate, more and better images to spark that zest to improve one\'s skills, better exchange of techniques and know-hows (except for most hilarious and non-painting related threads) through the forum.

however, i still say that the rating system can be better refined.
