High Elf Hero

A friend gave me a mini to paint as I said I wanted some minis to practice on.

He asked that I paint the cloak red and the loin cloth blue to match the rest of his army and that I use metallics rather than nmm.

So far I have done this:

I have tried to get a bluish silver tone to the armour by mixing metallics and blue paints. Do people think it works?

Also there is a kind of border to the plated armour that I am not sure what colour to paint. I though maybe white but then red white and blue...he might seem like a Union Jack instead of a High Elf...

Also I am thinking to go with a combination of gold and a more pure silver for the rest of the armour but...should I do the plate silver and the wing type bits and belt gold, or the opposite?

Also any critiques on what I have done so far are most appreciated.

Firstly I\'d love some larger pics  it\'s a tad hard to make out the lil details.

But from what I can see very nice paint job and I think the metals look very nice look like nmm but I can imagin with a lil metalic shimer it would look great. I would do the belt silver and hit up the small details like the knee, the circlet on his head, star bust on the necklace, and that border on the armor in gold. Keep the armor lookin like hard metal and saving the gold for embelishment.

keep us posted and get some bigger pics up lol

OK. Here are some bigger pics:

They show the red need more work lol. It always sends waves of disappointment through me when the photo will show things I can\'t see on the model with the naked eye. I think it looks good and the camera blows it all away lol.

Anyway hopefully the armour is a bit more visible now.

The questions I would really like peoples advice on are:

1. The fur cloak - white lion and creamy or darker brown?

2. The cloth that edges the armour...what colour?

3. The shield - metallic or plain colour (if so red, blue, pink?)?

And a more general question...how do I avoid chalky paints? The face looks chalky to me. I normally notice it more when I am using lighter colours on the highlights.

Awesome thanks for the big pics trust me still looks spot on. and I know what ya mean lol but it\'s not hard to relize it\'s enlarged alot and gonna make some things exageraited :) I had the same problem when doing light colored washes and found that a bit of Future floor wax in my water bottle really helped, it\'s an acrylic bases floor wax... but it acts as a flow improver (think thats what it\'s called) I noticed a big difference in the easy my paints responded and it helped with that chalky look.

As far as the shield maybe a nice silver with the detail bits (not sure what they are) in maybe gold and maybe blue if there is something it would work on.

the lions I like the idea of a creamy pale yellow.

Hope this helps :)

High Elf Hero - Update

This one is slow going as I have been busy at work but have progressed a little.

What do you all think?

Do you think the brown areas of cloth (difficult to see but near the edges of the scale mail) need to be highlighted up higher?

Also does the fur cloak look ok?

I really am not happy with the gold and have learnt how not to do it. However I am not sure hoe to remedy the mess I have made of it. I wish I had read that tutorial by Vincent H first.

Anyway as always comments and criticism much appreciated.

The fur looks great, the brown trim should be fine I take it the scale rmor is going to be a silverish color? the only time I\'d see the brown blending too much would be against large runs of gold. As far as the gold goes it doesn\'t look bad unfortunatly I\'m still fairly primitive when it comes to metals so I don\'t know how to help ya with that. So far lookin good and hopefully someone will pop on here and give ya some pointers on the gold.

So far, so good. My only issue is that he seems... bucktoothed? I dunnot if its the sculpt or the paint, but he definitely has some Bugs Bunny action going on there.

I heard from a source that the level of Ulthuan Orthodontists is pretty low in comparison to the other nations of the Warhammer world.

I will fix the teeth :duh:

And thanks for the comments.

nice work - you really got a hang of that smoothness a highelf would have. I especially like the fur and the hair.
