Hi guys. This is my first post on the forum, so thought i\'d just say a quick Hello :). I\'m John, i\'m english but living in cyprus at the moment (for ever i hope :p) I used to roleplay and wargame in my younger days and used to enjoy painting my mini\'s for tabletop use. Then after many years i chanced on this site and rediscovered the magic of mini painting. Unfortunately after only a couple of months i got so busy i had to give it up again for a couple of years, but i\'m back again with more time and even more enthusiasm to improve my painting :).

I don\'t play anymore so i\'m completely out of touch with what\'s what, i just paint mini\'s because i enjoy it, so correct colour scheme\'s, etc might be a bit hit and miss, hehe. I\'ll link my latest submission for you to have a look at. I\'d really like to hear comments as i see myself as a bit of an amateur and would be stoked to learn how to create some of the masterpieces i\'ve seen on this site.

This is my latest of a whole bag of old style chaos warriors i picked up on ebay when i first got back into painting a few years back. It\'s my 3rd chaos warrior and i think i\'m ready for a change, lol.

I\'m really inspired by the colourful painting style of some of the artists i\'ve seen here. I was amazed tho to see how different a photo can look to the real thing, i\'ve actually gone back and added more highlights after seeing the pics and i\'m still not 100% happy with the final pics. My wife\'s teaching me how the camera works tho, she quite good at all that, so hopefully they will get better. I should just get her to take the pics i think, hehe.

i was thinking about my paints too. I have quite a good range of acrylics but they aren\'t GW or Vallejo or anything and they\'re all about 2-3 years old (but not been used in that time). They\'ve only been used to paint the 4 mini\'s posted so i\'m wondering are GW/Vallejo paints a must? Is it worth replacing them all?

k, think that\'s about all for now, i\'ve waffled on enough. Please do make comments, i really want to hear what you think and what i can do to improve.

Cheers J.

edit: hmm, apparently \'2 posts\' says it\'s not my first post on the site... wonder what the first was, lol.

not bad for a start back. colors seem good ....a bit chalky but nothing a winsor and newton series 7 brush wont cure....and btw some of my paints are 4 years old and still work great... a toothpick and some water added work wonders.

cheers

Nice work on the Chaos warrior, I like the older Chaos warrior minis they had some real character to them, I think overall the painting is pretty good, a few more highlights here and there and you are well on the way.
I think the freehand on the shield could be a little tidier but again not a bad design at all.
I use GW paint for the most part and get satsifactory results with them I kerep thinking about chaging to other makes but as yet still stick to what I know best.
For brushes as long as you get decent quality brushes that hold their point and don\'t wear out quickly then you should be ok, W&N series 7 are good but I tend to get my brushes from Rosemary and Co now good quality durable and decently priced. Go for natural fibre (Sable) as opposed to synthetic fibres.
Keep your paints thin when you use them and you wont go far wrong.

Hi, it\'s nice to see someone who just got back into to mini\'s like myself.

The NMM Gold on your mini is excellent. especially on the side of the helmet and the hand. It\'s something I have never quite gotten the hang of.

Before I read your comments in the pic, I was intrigued that it looked like he was holding a mace made of jade. So good job there as well.

What I would suggest is to highlight he lava in the base a bit more and make it a bit brighter and hotter.

Great job on the warrior, I hope to see more.
