Help with varnish

Golden demon is very near and I want to varnish my model so it would survive the long journey to england.
I ordered matte varnish over than a month ago and it still didn\'t arrive.
I\'m stuck with pots of gloss varnish and I don\'t have the special ingredients for making varnish? What am I going to do?
I\'m not glossing it and leaving it shiny it would ruin the model.

What about thinning down the gloss with water?

I would suggest using gloss first and then putting matt over the top if you are worried about the paint shifting.

Knowing where you are may help with what sort of varnishes you have available

gloss it for now, for protection. Gloss varnish is harder than matt, you can apply the matt later
and yes telling us where you are is usually quite helpful ;):D
<-----------put it here then you don\'t have to worry about it, you can be as general or specific as you want, go to \'user control panel\' and edit your details there

Israel, where there are barely any model stores. And the ones Iv\'e been to sell only gloss.
Well then, I\'ll gloss it and hope that some train store sells matte.
Of course the stores with GW products have only the gloss. How can GW not make a pot of matte? (There is no spray import yet)

Should I thin it with water anyway or the gloss needs to be hard?

It depends on what paint you have used in the first place, if your coming to games day UK, I would rap it in tissue, and surround it in polystyrene in a strong box. Then get some varnish in the uk. You could order it to come to where your staying!!!!

If your using GW paints, I would use Humbrol satin varnish brush on (16 hrs drying time) and testors dullcote spray (3 mins drying time)

I know testors do a gloss as well, and I\'ve got some but not used it yet, so dont know its quality.

Be very carefull when varnishing, it could mess up your paint job. PM me if you need any further help, and good luck at games day
P.S. some entrants dont varnish there minis at all for competition. :D

not sure what is available to you over there, but try some model train stores.

As to watering down the varnish, I would not recommend it. Actually I would not recomend using the water based varnish at all.

Testors, Vellajo and some others make a brush on varnish. Testors is a solvent based but I am not sure about the Vellajo.

Avoid the Citdel (GW) product, they have had some serious quality issues lately and I would hate to see your entry ruined.

Best stuff is Testors DulCoat - either brush on or spay.
