Hi guys need some feedback on my skin tones and how to improve them thanks.

Also really finding the photo side of things tough going, first 2 pics have turned alittle orange, while the last one looks most like the mini in real life.

Also whats the best way to paint tattoos on skin ?

thanks again for your help guys.

looks cool mate.

for tattoos, get a brush with a realy good point. the length of the bristles is choice realy, some prefer longer, some shorter bristles.

or you can get some decals from hasslefree.

Off subject, but you might want to base him on something that looks cold. Dude has a serious nipple issue...

Skin tones look pretty darn good. I\'ll be interested to see the finished product.

@spazzy, I was thinking about some sort of winter base, but not sure what, you have any cool ideas I could borrow :)

@ Dammekkos2, just checked your gallery some nice marines in there! anyway this is how I did the skin, will try and explain it step by step.

#1 spray white undercoat.

#2 Then I painted the whole skin area with scorched brown, 2 thin layers, or until the area has a even base coat.

#3 Next is to completely cover the scorched brown with dark flesh, again I covered the whole area with 2 thin coats.

#4 Next I layered thin dwarf flesh on the model, to bring out the shape of the muscles, its best to use really thin coats at this point. I did 4 or 5 coats.

#5 now mix elf flesh with dwarf flesh and layer again with thin coats, keep adding more elf to the mix until your using pure elf.

#6 Now the scary part, I read somewhere on C\'mon that its best to use a blue wash to make the skin look more real, so i did and phew it worked, use very very very thin wash of shadow grey, wants to look like pure water your using, with a blue tint, using thin coats, dont overload your brush, make 3-4 washes until you see a blue tint in the shadows, then do the same with dark flesh.

#7 now the highlights, using elf flesh, start to highlight, again thin coats is the key to keeping the skin smooth, I then started to add small amounts of bleached bone to the mix, until it was nearly all bleached bone I was using.

#8 last step another very thin wash, this time of elf flesh, just to help blend the highlights in.

thats it so far, if anyone can improve the way I am doing skin, give some tips, ideas that would be great, made it up as i was going using a few different ideas that I have read on c\'mon.

thanks again for your feedback.

I tried to do a tattoo on my Nork Deddog (See the WIP section)

I haven\'t had much feedback about it to be honest, but I think it looks ok.

I tried to make it look faded by using shadow grey rather than chaos black.

To do it I simply used a nice fine-tipped brush and watered down the paint a bit.

Looks like you\'ve got pretty good technique there for the skin and the tattoos. I did read a post or comment recently that suggested doing a thin wash of you flesh colour over a tattoo to help integrate it with the skin - not tried this yet though.

Your skin technique looks good to me. I certainly don\'t have the patience to do that many layers, and that is probably reflected in my scores!:)

BTW, did you ever finish that vampire from the last Mini Exchange? Get him posted!

Looking good Chris! I like the skin a lot... The tatoos I want to give you some kudos on. They are not completely dark or black, and they are not completely perfect, which fits the bad tattoo artists of his time... great work man. Keep us posted!!! plus check your e-mail... I got you a little something, sorry I took so long!

@treide, yes will get some photos up for you to see, not 100% happy with how it turned out, but its not to bad :)

I think it looks great, and I like your work and style.

I have never painted a tattoo myself yet, I was going to but bottled it on my giant after the skin took forever to do. I remember reading in White Dwarf that former \'Eavy metal painter and multiple slayer sword winner Matt parkes Paints them flat (as in no shades or highlights), then highlights the skin around the tattoo. Hope this helps, he knows a thing or two about painting!

Yours look great! I like the colour- you have added that greeney blueish tone like a real tat.
