i have a ton of SW models but im not able to get there basecoat right. im trying to get as close as possible to the SW codex color but they say they use mainly Games Workshop Shadow grey but there no possible way the model are that light just by using shadow grey alone. ive mix skull white and space wolf grey to my shadow grey an many other colors but im completely frustrated. If any one could help mix the correct colors from the Games Workshop citadel color i would be ever so great full

im trying to get base color like these models

I normally paint my SW in a much darker and greyer color than the GW one, as I think it\'s way to smurf-like (and we all know tau is the real spacesmurfs). But I would imagine a mix of shadow - and spacewolf grey and then washed with shadow grey before highlighting could end up looking like the GW color.
Maybe if you could show some of your color tests, better advice could be given. good luck

I do them from a black undercoat. 3 layers of dry/overbrush with shadowgrey, a lighter drybrush of codex grey and then a wah of codex grey. Highlights on rank \'n\' file are done with spacewolf grey. For caracters and bigger thing I do a couple of mixes shadow/spacewolf grey and highlight up to spacewolf grey.

and you dont have to show a finished mini (noone ever finish colortest minis), just something that shows your armour color.

Well, in the olden days, there was also a Space Wolf Grey spray can, might have been used as a foundation on the older pics, then possibly shaded down a bit(note the old SW Grey did differ slightly in hue from the new one).
Second, although many \'Eavy Metal guys do not use Citadel paints and brushes, they\'ll give you approximate (sometimes wildly differing, though) colours from the Citadel range.

i use shadow grey over the black undercoat, and then a mix of 50/50 shadow, and space wolf grey...it\'s a nice mix, not too light, but not too dark...then highlight with pure space wolf grey, and away ya go...

cheers

my space wolves came mostly pre-assembled and pre-base coated, so i am not sure the main color.

but i use space wolves grey and shadow grey for the other colors.

on the icon (last link) you can see the base color best but i don\'t think they make that spray anymore.
