Help Deciding On Space Marine Chapter

So I have been planning on painting up a small space marine force. Since I don\'t game this, as most of my other minis will be destined for eBay when complete.

I originally planned to do them as Blood Ravens (I like the fluff behind them and the color scheme is nice), but have since been second guessing myself. I am now also thinking Black Templars since those would be easy to paint and as far as I know are fairly popular. Also as much as I don\'t want to do it, (I hate that specific blue), I have considered Ultra Marines since those seem to be most popular.

If it helps here is what will be included in the army:

2, 10 man tactical squads
1, 10 man assault squad
1, 5 man vanguard squad
2 dreadnaughts
1 land raider crusader

The commander will depend on what chapter I end up doing (Blood Ravens will be an Librarian, Templars Emperor\'s Champion, Smurfs will be Marneus Calgar or Chaplain.)

So basically, vote on your favorite, if your favorite is not on the list, vote other and let me know which one is. I should be ready to start painting these guys within the next two weeks. Thanks everyone!

Blood Ravens! That\'s what I paint anyway... I love the look of red power armor, but hate the Blood Angels nonsense.

I\'d say Ultras if selling is your priority, Templars if painting ease is your priority, and Ravens if you want to have a good time. Alternatively, since you\'re selling a whole force instead of ones and twos and squads, you might interest people by doing a really out-there obscure chapter like the Revilers (I always liked the gray and yellow), or even one you invent yourself.

I\'d never had said as much a few months ago, but I honestly love painting up Ultramarines - I love painting blues I suppose. If they\'re done well, then they can be as good as anything.

That said, you could go mad, buy some of the Forgeworld Red Scorpians and have fun with them - those FW figures are fantastic!

Thanks for all the votes and replies so far guys. I am liking all this input. Will most likely be starting the painting on these guys in two weeks max. (Waiting on a few more eBay orders to finish it off.) So keep the votes coming till then. :)

@dogfacedboy - no worries, won\'t do Howling Griffons. I\'d like to see how you progress on those though. I will be sure to get a WIP going of my army once I start it, whether on here or my website.

@Joek and hestan - I actually considered the Red Scorpions, just because of all the sweet Forge World add ons available. Thinking about it though, I really don;t want to invest the money in all the Forge World stuff since it\'s an eBay bound army. If it was a personal project I would most likely do the Scorpions.

Blood Ravens are a fantastic looking army, but you have to be prepared to do a TON of freehand since there are no decals or metal/resin bits available for them. This is not something to undertake lightly... but it\'s great practice for your freehand!

Salamanders have always been another favorite of mine. Love the colors, love the fluff, love the playstyle, and the new rules are actually very good for them as well.

Another solid option is a realistic/weathered Ultramarines force. They look really good when they lose their prettyboy polished blue armor.

@Jericho - Blood Ravens would definitely be a challenge especially with all the freehand as you said. But I think in the end they would be well worth it. I actually like painting red so would be nice to do it on a whole army. Also if BR do get the most votes, I have got a minor conversion planned for the marines so looking forward to that.
I am not a big fan of Salamanders unfortunately. Just not big on the green. I don\'t know much of the fluff behind them or much of the new rules.
Ultra Marines can definitely look impressive if done well. I really just don\'t like them. I think it\'s just the overkill as far as exposure goes by GW, combined with the fact that GW doesn\'t do a great job with painting them.

All in all it will come down to whichever gets the most votes and either way it will be a fun and exciting project.

I look forward to following your progress on these guys - i love wip\'s.

My howling griffons look pretty good, but my painting unfortunately isnt up there with the best of them, but I\'m gonna put everything I got into them. The units I have so far are as follows

Space Marine combat squad
Metal scouts and two metal snipers
Land Speeder
Dreadnought
Techmarine
commander
Rhino
Terminator squad
chaplain with jump pack
terminator librarian
3 bikes plus 1 attack bike

It too will be destined for ebay when i have had my fun with it. I want to put as many touches and conversions in as possible.

@dogfacedboy - hehe no worries. My painting definitely isn\'t up there either. Not yet at least! Conversions are a great idea. Especially if you plan on selling the army. It makes it look that much more unique and appealing.

@Slah - Hhmmm,. that\'s definitely another good one to consider.

@Mick - Space Wolves are actually one of my favorites, but rumor has it that GW will be redoing by the end of the year so I think I will hold off to see if there are any new models I may like. :)
