hello everyone!
i\'ve been following this site for sometime now, seen some amazing models here and i\'ve lurked around the forums a bit too recently.
i thought i\'d finally make an appearance and ask for a little help on improving my entries.
I\'ve posted a fair few up, but i am barely able to scrape a score of 6 at best, and being quite proud of some of my stuff it\'s like a slap in the face when it gets voted under 5s.
so, here is my gallery, theres a few new entries added today and i\'d love to hear what you think, hopefully with some improvement suggestions :)

Hello and welcome. Nice name!;)

You have some decent enough stuff in your gallery, and the newer stuff does indeed show improvement, but the scores look about right.

Don\'t take that as people just saying your efforts are crap though! It\'s just that to even get a 7 you need to be doing miniatures to a really quite high level. Voters here are a demanding lot and I think everyone is a bit shocked by the marks they get at first.

It\'s really important to try to stop caring about votes and concentrate on the feedback you can get too I think. Coming to the forums is a good idea for this, so be sure to stick around and let people know when you have new stuff up.

You seem to have the basic techniques sorted. You don\'t whack on horribly thick layers of paint, everything is where it should be and pretty neat, now you just need to start adding the elements that will make your models leap out. The big thing that strikes me is that you need to work on improving your tonal transitions. Your highlights are either too subtle or too extreme. Try to use more stages and thin your paints down more to work up the highlights in multiple glazes (check out the articles section for more info).

Once you get that sorted it\'s time to start working on things like adding a few fine details to each model, some nice freehand or a bit of a light effect, something like that to really make the paint job leap out.

I\'m sure that others will have lots more suggestions.

Welcome to the forums!

As lono said, don\'t worry too much about the votes. It\'s much easier to improve with feedback and you\'ll probably get a lot more of it here on the forums than you would in the gallery.

I looked over everything (and gave them all a vote) and the painting looks pretty solid; clean, excellent brush control, nice color choices. The pictures are clear (big plus), but some seem too dark while others seem too bright and that could be effecting the voting.

Highlighting and shading will definitely give your minis more \"pop\". For example, your Sephiroth looks pretty good, but the face and hair loocould use some shading/highlights; that would really give them a sense of depth.

There are a ton of great articles here and the people here are pretty helpful, so keep posting your work, especially here in the forums. Look forward to seeing your stuff.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.
A wip thread would be a good idea if you are willing to spend some time on a mini and go back and this mistakes as they show up. It\'s really a great way to improve and folks on this forum are great about helping out.
And for some nice advice you can also go and have a look over there :
articles

Cheers.

I have to concur with whats been said so far. Score is in the end nothing but someones opinion. WIP threads are a great idea as is posting you finished mini here. You have the basics down now I would pic a technique and work on it. Good luck.
