That's a timely reminder to attend to my PC. Our last one, when taken to the shop, amazed the technician - he'd not seen one killed by a smoking related illness before. Like the middle pages of the link's series, it was just dusty, albeit with a sickly brown tint.
Smoking really is the worst for it. I had a PC for 3 & a half years, i opened it up and could have scraped a couple of bong's worth off the insides. Yuk!
Keeping animals too, bad dust prob there...
Can you imagine how bad it would be if you had smoking animals??!!?? I shudder to think....
Heck if a computer can keep running up to the stage of some of those pics I can put off cleaning mine for a couple of years. It's not like I am cutting brick in the house. Although I did find a frog in my basement but I think he was after the spiders.
Worst PC I've looked inside when I was an IT tech for a company was one that lived in the office part of a foundry. Opened it up and every surface was coated in thick black greasy dust... Another machine blew a capacitor in the PSU - whisp of smoke appears from the back, open it up to find it all covered in electrolytic fluid
I spilled a box of iron filings into mine a little while back and used a magnet to clean them out.
3 weeks later, the computer repair guy stopped laughing at me and fixed it.
Good thing I own more than one computer.
Even in a closed, Air filtered Server room environment the small amount of human interaction still creating large amounts of dust is scary.
We have scheduled maintenance on our servers and forked out on those mini vacuums just for cleaning the insides after a FORMER colleague used a full size vac and removed a jumper switch. View attachment 6160
The blue bits are jumper switches roughly 2mm in size.
