Greathorn Alt parts

So I just got my stuff Friday and finally had time to put stuff together. I started with the Greathorn tonight and I was looking at his alternate horns. If anyone else has this model can you give me your thoughts on how to use them? They do not seem to sit right, the mane seems to get in the way. Am I supposed to shave it down so it fits?

Mine actually fit pretty well. I only say them in though as I was planning on using the non-variant horns but neither had any noticeable gap.
