Had a chance yesterday to play a little Wrath. Man, do I love this game.
I was playing Teknes:
Timoshkin
2 Galvanic Defenders
6 Linemen
6 Union Workers
My friend Pete played Goritsi:
Dancing Master
Skorza Alpha
Blood Engine
3 Skorza Skirmishers
6 Wardancers
My motivation was Treasure Hunt and his was Gain Intel
I deployed to the far right of my side mostly behind a building. Pete deployed a little more centrally, which shouldn't be a problem given his speed.
First turn I got the initiative and split my force in two, with half the linemen and workers going right around the building to one of the treasure markers and the other half going towards a more centrally located marker. The Defenders stayed more central ready to go where they were needed. The Goritsi responded by moving ungodly quick right at me. This was going to get interesting real quick.
On the second turn Pete had the initiative. His group moved further in, setting up some possible combat, should I choose to go for it. With only one leader model, I had Timoshkin order one group to flank, and then he moved behind the house to order the others forward. I got one little piggy into a skirmisher, but failed to do any damage, even with an assist.
Turn three once again had the Goritsi go first, and they started to get stuck right in. The wardancers stepped up into the Union Workers on my left, and took down one. The Alpha planted himself on an objective piece near the building, forcing me to go at him to get it. The Blood Engine moved up and effectively pinned in two of my other workers with its aura affect. My Union workers on the right of the building went into the Alpha, but got nothing done. On the subsequent turn the Alpha missed as well, allowing me a sigh of relief. The Galvanic Defenders took out one wardancer, and Timoshkin took out another. I moved into the Blood Engine hoping take it down and free my movement, as I had two objective markers far from this side and little hope to get there. I did a few wounds to it, but my joy was short lived as two skirmishers moved into Timoshkin and interacted with him to take my morale down to 3. Then the Blood Engine and a skirmisher took out some more models, bringing be down to 2 morale.
Seeing how this was going, I forewent attacking the Alpha to instead interact with the marker. It was some treasure, so the score was more reasonable at 2-4 in favor of Goritsi.
The next couple of turns saw the wardancers and their leader dispatch two more pigs, The Alpha hurt, but did not kill anyone. The skirmishers were charged, unwounded, and then dispatched a pig. The blood engine and another skirmisher took out some more of my linemen, and I was quickly looking at being down 1-4 with only one more of my models needing to be removed for a Goritsi victory. It was time for me to take a chance, so I went and attacked the Alpha with just my Workers, and they did not disappoint., taking the big guy down. I also was able to take out a skirmisher, making the score 1-3.
In the last turn I got the initiative and went for the marker near the Blood Engine, it was a treasure, knotting the score at 1-1, unfortunately I was then ganged up on by the remaining skirmisher and the Blood Engine, and lost in the end 0-1.
Overall, this was a great game. In a intro sized game, though, I would be wary of taking a rank 2 leader again. It was too easy for Pete to lower my morale by 4 in one go. If I had another leader with the intel and could keep things more at bay I may have been able to win this. Also, only one leader makes combined activations a major pain in the butt. In the end it was a nice learning experience, and people better beware my mastering, eventually, of this faction.
