currently i am using mixtures of snot green+dark angels green, pure snot green, snot green+white, which are all at different quantities

like 3:1 or 2:1 or 1:1

are there any better colours i could use (to make them look more like on the packet)

i will be posting pictures soon so you can give me some advice on painting and stuff

thanks!!!!

Well, personally, I only use WHITE for higlighting with colours that are already light (Like yellows and creams etc)

White has a tendency to \"chalk\" darker colours, and your extreme highlights may end up looking a bit strange.

Snot green usually highlights DA green well enough, and if you want to take it up further I\'d suggest a little Gobbo or Scorpy green.

If you have decide you want some of you angels a lighter green (For example scouts of something) you may want to be using yellows for upper highlights, and maybe for extreme edging a bit of bleached bone - which gives a lovely highlight with catachan green IMO.

However, as mentioned, I\'d stay away from straight white for highlights, in the same way that I wouldn\'t use pure blacks for shading lighter colours.

yeh i dont use straight white.

the lightest i go is about 1:1 snot green:white

so half and half

thats the final highlight and only goes on the very edges of the shoulderpads and armour

Yes, goblin green would be the one to use. DA green is a yellow green, so you need to highlight with yellow greens. To lighten the greens, add bleached bone isntead of white, just to stop bleaching the green as much as white would.

Just agreeing with DaN really. :)

Well, for my marines\' DA Green parts, I use a 1:1 mix of DA Green and Snot Green for the first highlight, and then just keep adding Sunburst Yellow to the mixture for further highlights. Gives a nice result IMO.

Imho goblin green is an awful colour I don\'t even use it for base rims any more. I\'d go with DA - snot - scorpion green but try a few different combinations to see which you like best.

There\'s nothing wrong with Gobbo green as a COLOUR, it\'s more the consistency and it\'s knack of un-mixing itself that makes it annoying.

As long as you always ensure to give gobbo green a good shake before opening it then it usually mixes and paints ok.

Can\'t comment on Scorpy, as I don\'t have it and have never used it yet, but as Modd mentioned, the way to highlight and/or shade a colour is to look and see what colours make it up...

Learning the spectrum is a good way to think about some colours.

Ie. ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet)

Reds highlight well with yellows and oranges and other \"warm\" colours and shade well with purples and \"cold\" colours

I don\'t know enough about colours to expand TOO much on this though, but hopefully you get what I mean :D

thankyou to all who have helped me with this

so i got

basecoat DA green (dark angels green)

1st highlight (raised areas)

1:1 DA green and snot green

2nd highlight (edges of armour)

2:1 snot green dark angels green

3rd highlight

pure snot green?!?!?

3rd highlight

snot green with small bit of bleached bone

final highlight?(or do i have enough already?)

if i need a final highlight it will be same as 4th but more bleached bone

will this achieve a good effect?

(i will give it a shot tonight)

thanks!!!!
