glowing red eyes ala Cyril

Hi all, im currently at work on my gd entry, and im planning to use red as a spot colour, with eyes and both hands being the points of interest. ive read cyril\'s tutorial and its been no end of help, and im planning to do a similar effect with red. im planning on using, scab red, then red gore, then blood red, then a mix of gore and blood for glow glazes.

my question is, what should i use for the incandescent \"flash\" in the center of the eye, and the brightest glaze on the edge of the eye socket. should i add elf flesh to blood red or use blazing orange?

thanks in advance for any help

I\'d use orange. Vallejo Model colour has a \'dayglow\' orange, that works as a spot colour too.

Red is quite difficult to OSL, it often drifts into the realm of orange.

Actually, I would go with a flesh color mainly because i think it would make it look brighter than using orange which is what I assume you\'d be going for. But orange would work too I suppose. I just think flesh would work best.
However Donga is definitely a better painter than me... maybe you should just listen to him :)

Maybe not too much, I\'ve had the most difficulty with red OSL. We are all still learning, even slayer sword winners! (which I\'m not). I think it could depend on the end effect, if you want \'fire\' - go orange, if you want \'Red\' - go with the flesh colour (I highlight red with dwarf or bronzed flesh anyway).

I find green easier

thanks guys, i would do green, except the effect would be lost because the helmet itself is green. the figure is chaos, so i think ill go \"fire\". thanks for the help!

One thing Ive started doing with OSL eyes is to putty them over so there is almost no indentation - going straight off the forhead and down to the cheek. This eliminates the conflict of having a natural shadow in the very middle of a painted light source.

As to making red glow, underpaint everything in pure white, coat that with a bright yellow then go with VERY SATURTATE red\'s. put an orange center with a yellow dot. It can also help when doing an OSL piece to dull and darken the other colors of the fig JUST A TAD.

Here\'s a 2D painting I just did that kind of shows the color progressions.
