Oops! Blimey, bad enough travelling to Birmingham anytime but a Sunday? I guess the NEC must be cheaper to rent than on a Saturday?

So at least I'm not too late...

Good luck everybody, have a great day! :)

Cheers, B.

It's a bit of a trek I'm coming from Poole in Dorset and the coach leaves at five, I feel sorry for those coming from Truro or dundee

Hi NNFAN, 5AM! I did enquire a while back at the local GW & the ticket with coach was cheaper than I'd anticipated. Haven't ended up buying one, obviously, amongst the many reasons, the idea of sitting on a coach for a couple of hours with a gaggle of giddy teenagers being encouraged to sing along to bad Metal by the overenthusiastic staff :) (horrific enough instore when I can swiftly escape with my new pot of paint). You'll be what, 4-5 hours? I admire your commitment and temperament :good:

Best wishes & good luck in whichever categories you're entering.

Cheers, B.

Smart move Skraaal :good: Hope you have a great day :)

Have I read right, I think there's a new Black Library short story being distributed on the buses as an extra little treat? Should help provide some minutes distraction!

Cheers, B.

YEAH congrats to the winners at least the judges botherd to look at you enrty. NOT ONCE did they pick up my mini and look at it. I didnt even get past the first cut. i thought that when you judge a category you would bother to look at all the entrys!!
so i went over to the see eavy metal team for advice. "WOW thats awsome, why didnt you enter golden demon?"
"i didnt make first cut."
"WHAT SORRY i guess they overlooked your mini."
the whole thing was poorly done shuoldnt they look at all the entrys? im stood watching the judging of 4ok single if your mini was on the lower shelfs they barely gave it a glance. BS
sorry to rant but WTF. Hundred hours of work for nothing.

so which model in that gw link won the sword?

is it just me, or did this year seem weaker than some of the year's past overall? maybe it's the bad quality pics GW took..

@ Sanjay - It was my feeling that there were less entries and less good entries than last year, but there were still plenty of awesome minis to fight it oput for the top spots.

It appears that some minis were 'overlooked' this year, I know in past years one of the judges said that they would go back over the cabinets after 1st cut, just to check nothing had been missed, maybe that didn't happen this year?

I can only speak for 40k single minis but The judges were standing behind the cabnets viewing the minis from behind. Then they would randomly look at 3 or 4 then walk off, then someone else would come over and look at a few. They didnt look at all the minis at all. In any competition no matter what it is the judges look at all the entrys to decide what is good enough to move on. AM I RIGHT !
i handed in my entry and not once all morning did anyone look at it. so in effect it wasnt judged at all!
it was not done fairly. many people were angry that no judge botherd to look at their minis. Im still angry now. all that work and they didnt even look at it once!
cheers.

Well having looked seriously at one of the categories I can tell you exactly how many entries there were as I stood and counted them, twice to make sure.
A grand total of 53 in LOTR.
Couldn't even cover three shelves in one cabinet.
Overall other than the two main contender categories (40K & WFB single miniatures) I saw that the cabinets were sparser than the last couple of years.

As to the selection process for first cut sometimes it is a crapshoot as to who takes the miniatures in. I watched Niel Hodgson take in a mini and give it a good looking over before putting it in the cabinet, yet another 'collector' just took a mini and placed it at the bottom of a cabinet without even looking at it.
