hmmmm how sad you forgot the german/austrian style :)

You know style is a thing of personal taste, so it´s impossible to give out a straight *this is the best one*

Personally i like the french style alot, also the dark and realistic UK-style. Both styles mixed perfectly together might be the best style out there, but that´s just my taste.

Did i mention, that you forgot the german/austrian style? :)

I like the French style, but there\'s TOO DAMN MUCH Nurgle. I mean, one green/brown zombie with his intestines hanging is cool, but it gets old when there are 20 of them - even if allan c painted them. So I voted for the UK style. Would\'ve voted for the german/austrian style if I could ;).

I like the UK style the best, it\'s the one I\'m practicing really hard.

Don\'t really know about the German austrian style.. but i think they often convert their models alot. Smooth blending, realistic models. From what i have seen.

I definitly like the UK style. My second favorite is the Frenk style. I would love to paint like that. But the UK is what really catches my eye.

Then again, that\'s why I swithed from AD&D to Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play. It had a grittier feel.:)

I like the US style a lor love what bobby wong does. The only bad thing is I don\'t have a clue of how I should paint to get a cartoony look so I usually end up with a UK style mini.
French style looks nice on one or two minis but I think it\'s a bit too dark, and got to agree with U4, I\'m starting to hate all those nurgle things ( even though they are really nice). The fact that I think nurgle is the easy way to go conversion wise dosn\'t help either ( just add som pustules and tantacules, paint brown and green, and........tada!!!! instant nurgle)

It is impossible to say which style is \'best\'. It is all down to personal perferance. Each country has its own unique slant on painting and artistic interpretation of the Gw games systems. You really do need to appreciate each style for its own merits.

Saying this I do love the Uk daemons. The uk competion is about the strongest there is with many entrys from painters around the world. After all the Uk is really home to GW and the fluff and judgeing in the uk tends to reflect the GW style the most.

now german/austrian style has a bit of french style, a bit of UK-style and a bit of american style .... now maybe this is just my impression, but it is a good mix and not sooo straight. I think you can find all the different styles (or a least a little bit) on german GD. There´s a good amount of conversion work, smooth painting but sometimes some lack of imagination ;)

to get a nice overview look for:

dahu
fuzzicato
fredy
GeOrc
Franz Sander
brushguy (okay he isn´t a GD-painter, but he has a wonderful style :) )

on this site. There are some more on CMON, but i can´t remember all their accounts (i´m ashamed ;) )

What I\'m not seeing here is the numbers of entries in each location.

I know that the UK usually has about 6000 - 8000 people at Games Day of which probably 40% enter Golden Deamon. Not to knock down anywhere else but I understand that some of the separate US events have less than 1000 particpants attending. ( I couldn\'t hazard a guess at the number of Golden Deamon Entires)

So to try to define the Styles like this is not a good comparison. Plus if you look a the names of the German winners last years Mike Anderson stands out and he\'s a UK painter. So where is the \"Variation\" in styles?
If you want to try to win a Golden Deamon don\'t try to be Fashionable just paint the way you feel is the best you can do.

I think the french game day had about 2800 people this year, and it was the biggest one ever held in France. Don\'t have a clue about how many entries though.

Gd are becoming international events, i was in UK and spain last year with some other french painters. and many english and spanish painters entered the french GD 2004.

and please don\'t think that rackham represent the \"french style\", it\'s not true, we aren\'t all fans of NMM...

As has been said, all styles, if done well, are equally impressive and capable of 9\'s & 10\'s.
Beyond that, it\'s a matter of personal taste. And for my taste, if I could choose to paint like any of them, I think I would favor a belnd of the German/Austrian and the UK styles.

Oh, and Goatman, I notice you modestly left yourslf out of the list of proponants of the German/Austrian style :D
