Frost Giant

That's a really cool sculpt. I think your idea to add some stuff to his belt is a good idea. The sheild is something you might consider working on. I'd be tempted to put the sheild on his back and put another weapon in his left hand. Just some thoughts mate. Happy converting/scupting and of course painting:)

Glad to see you back. I like the idea of adding something to the belt. If you are just getting in to sculpting, though, might I suggest doing an elaborate sculpted base? Sculpting on bases is good practice and low pressure. Either way, I suggest adding something that's creates a sense of scale, to emphasize that the subject is a giant.
A neat thought occurs - reaper also makes a few damsel in distress type minis ( including one on a spit). Could be a pretty sweet addition to the base, or off hand ( moving the shield to the back).

good to see you too funnymouth. i like the basing idea. i am thinking of adding a second mini on the base. i was thinking of doing a second version of a reaper archer mini i did a while back and placing some arrows sticking out of the shield and his shoulder. i also noticed as i was cleaning up mold lines i noticed his left eye is all screwy so i think i may actually incorporate that as an old injury (gotta love a mod you dont have to do yourself lol).
what would be the best course of action to remove the sheild? im guessin just a razor saw and then resculpt? not sure i am goin that route but always good for future reference. also i have been using pro create to sculpt with is there another epoxy that would be recommended for begginners?
thanks again for the help in the other thread.

ive actually done the same thing with a bad mold line before - they make good scars when nothing else can fix 'em.
the shield thing could be tough if its heavily integrated. the only way may be to remove the arm then resculpt it. this could add a lot of time to an early project, though, and kill your momentum. pro create is good from what i hear, lots of people use it. i personally use supersculpy and greenstuff from GW. whatever you use initially should be fine; familiarized yourself with its properties and when your ready to try out something that behaves differently (sharper vs softer edges, stretchy vs brittle etc), pick something up. each has unique properties and different people prefer different materials.

If you can't get the shield off easily, you might try making a push mold of the outer side (don't need the inner if it is on his back). Then you can just remove the shield and leave the arm in decent condition, just need some touch-ups. Shield pieces to be used at a later date on a base or something.

i just got some instant mold i may try to do that. i have put this project on hold temporarily so i can concentrate on a commission piece for the a local gold prospecting club. its due this this coming saturday so i will be back to the frost giant soon i hope, provided minisculpt doesnt send me a new master mold set to start.

any tips on making individual arrows? tried using wire and epoxy but didnt look right and i dont have any arrow bits laying around. i did try to fletch one with actual feather and it turned out pretty good but not sure how it will paint.

Most of the ones I've seen done have been with metal rod, wooden dowel or plastic rod (wire is too malleable, I think). Feathers either plasticard or paper/cardstock, cut out, hold with tweezers, glue edge, hold against arrow shaft, repeat twice more (total of 3 per arrow). The head...um...I can't remember. Most of the ones I remember seeing were stuck in something. If you want a few with a point on the end of the stick, maybe make a mold the shape of the arrow head, as if it was shot into the mold. Then when all your arrows are ready, mix some putty, lube up the mold, fill it with putty, stick the arrow in, pull out and touch up the tip as needed. I suppose it would be easier to touch up the attach point with the arrow before pulling it out...but yeah...sounds like you'll be sticking them in things anyway.

think i may try to find some metal rod that would make things much easier. biggest trouble im having is the archer is going to be 28 or 30 mm and the frost giant is... well hes a giant, so i was having some scale issues.
