Foxtail and Morty

So against my better judgement I've invested in Mortarion, Daemon Primarch of the Death Guard, Nurgle's Chosen Angel, Drainer of Fox's Bank Account.

Because of my drastically limited time and desire to paint this as a proper display piece (I've bought a plinth and everything) this is going to be a long project. As such I'm going to log it in a dedicated thread, which will hopefully double as a bit of a guide and a handy place to write down which paints I've used so I don't forget :S.

I'm getting the nurglings done first since I know I won't have enough willpower to paint them well after I'm done with Morty.

Airbrush preshaded with white and black, then decided which colours to coat each nurgling with. There are 5 altogether, each is a different colour but the brighter ones will be toned down when layered.

I had a good idea that I wanted to give one a belly that looks like an inflamed blister and the one in the centre above was best for this so I took him on first.

His skin's pretty close to being done. I might get a bit more contrast by lightening up the green skin on the back a bit more. The green skin is VMC Cam. Olive Green feathered up to VGC Camouflage Green. The tentacle is VGC Livery Green and the blister is VMC Amaranth Red to VGC Filthy Brown to VMC Ivory.

Will get the rest of this guy finished in the coming week.

That's a cracking start Fox. Nothing better than a puss filled buttock on a nurgling!

Looking forward to this developing.

Very impressive blister on his ass, looks serious...the kind of blister my wife says i will get if i dont get off mine lol. Is that venom green on the tentacles?

Cheers guys! It's frustrating having little time during the week to carry on with these.

Cass, it's VGC Livery Green. Basically the brightest green I own. I'm going to get a touch of yellow onto the end of that tentacle as well.

It is great to have you back Fox and it looks like you're back with a bang as well! I can't wait to see you tackle this excellent looking sculpt. I'm confident that it is going to look fantastic no matter how long it takes you to finish :)

Gotten the cowl and necklace done on 'John' today. The cowl could be better.

I'm still a little undecided on how I'm going to paint Morty, but the current line of thought is old-school beige for the armour and verdigris brass for the trim. Cloth will be red throughout, because I like red.
I thought I'd practice my brassy verdigris on this little dude's pendent. Not sure how I'd feel about it en masse for the armour trim.

Just for a bit of perspective, this is the size of John.

BaM, Tee, you're diamonds.

I discovered by looking at the GW pics closely that I've painted some plastic that should be John's skin as part of the cowl. Not going to correct it right now, I'll see how I feel and might go back over it in future. It doesn't look weird really, just annoying now that I know.

Thought I'd try my hand at some nmm. It's not something I've ever really done much of before, but I'm happy with how it's turned out. Thought I'd get a picture before I rust it up.

You've been in secret training Fox! Looking really tight, level up material right here IMO.

NMM looks bloody good from over here.

Looks pretty tight! In all honestly until I read you'd painted some of the cowl that should be skin....Well I couldn't tell the difference in any measure sooo...

Anyway, look forward to more of the same ;)

Cheers everyone! Hairster, I can assure you that it's complete beginner's luck.

Lem, I've got 3 colours I use for the verdigris, 2 are mixes. Lightest is VGC Verdigris, mid tone is the former darkened down with some VMC Turquoise and Neutral Grey, and the darkest is that mix darkened further with VGC Cold Grey and Black.

It's really difficult to find anyone that produces a paint of the right hue that isn't oversaturated and too light or dark. Actual verdigris tends to be a greener turquoise rather than bluer.

The brass is just whatever earth tone I had lying around at that time. It's so minute that I wasn't pried too much about how I painted it. Best guess, VGC Earth or Khaki?
