Dont think Im strange..I need to know this for a project Im doing. Do Imperial gaurdsmen bury their fallen comrades given the chance.? Of course usually they are dying in droves and often to the kind of weaponry that leaves little behind to bury...but if they had time would they? If so waht kind of grave markers would be used? I imagined nothing with christian imagery or anything traditionally churchyard...makeshift aquilla instead of a makeshift cross? dogtags/helmets? please let me know what you think would work best in mini form as part of a diorama. Cheers guys.

Okay, I had to look up aquilla and I\'m still not sure what you mean.
I did find this really cool resource pic of a bird though!

Anyway, why not a cross?
The cross is not necessarily a Christian symbol but is often a symbol of an afterlife predating Christianity. The cross is the simplest, most universal shape.

Still I think the image of a helmet on a stick is simple enough. Otherwise rough boards with rounded tops. If you have a strong stomach you can do an internet image search for \"makeshift cemetery\".

Vince, the aquila is that two-headed bird symbol on everything Imperium in the WH40K world.

found online:
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
Aquila
One entry found for Aquila.

Main Entry: Aq·ui·la
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin (genitive Aquilae), literally, eagle
: a constellation in the northern hemisphere represented by the figure of an eagle

@ calcipher - Bury?? I thought they ate their dead. You need a dinner table diorama!

Just kidding!

I\'ve seen pictures (in the CityFight book I think) of imperial bolters with the bayonet dug in the ground, helmet on top and name scribbled on something attached to the bolter. I like that idea.

If you do a bit of digging around, there is some fluff about what the different pieces of the Aquila mean in 40k (e.g the blind eye means this, the left claw means this). IIRC it was originally in the Rogue Trader book, but I\'m sure its online somewhere
