The miniature is good, and there is nothing wrong with it. It looks nice, it just seems to lack that \'Zing\'. I would go back to it and do some more highlighting/ shading on quite alot of the colours to really bring out the detail.

Having said that the flesh is nice and subtle.

Good!:D

Take her highlights up another notch. The gift box in her hand is a good place to practice NMM as shiney paper should act about the same way.

I really like the deep red - burgundy colors. I think they look particularly appropriate for Sophie, more so than the brighter, candy-colored reds. Also, the flesh tones are really nice, smooth and subtle. Other than that I guess I would agree qith the consenus: You could take the highlights up a notch, even two in some places and teh idea of doiong the present in nmm is a great one!

And to answer your question: Yes, I\'d say you were getting better. Sometimes, though, it may be hard for you to see. Since you are a farly solid, accomplished painter already, the steps in improvemenet are much subtler. If you\'d been a \"4 to 5\" painter and moved up to be a \"5 to 6\" painter, I think the improvements would be glaring and obvious. Not so when you start at a higher level. Keep plugging away.

Everything is painted very nicely. You have definately made some great progress with your last few minis, this one being no exception.

The skin looks so soft and supple almost pinchable (ahem) if you know what I mean.

Over exaggerating highlights would give it that \'zing\' like donga says, but I\'d be more guided on what it looks like in real life. Subtle highlights don\'t always show so well in photograph, and I\'ll bet in real life this thing really looks stellar.

That does seem to be a bit of the \'cost\' of having a \'subtle\' style here on CMON. You may have to sacrifice the style a little if you want to have better results (and I am only talking results as in votes)

Over exaggerating the highlights is hard to do when your style says otherwise but just in my experience (its always about me isnt itlol) I have noticed it has seemed to help my scores. Some of my earlier efforts were much more subtly highlighted and shaded (and in the photos it is barely noticable) and I have \'forced\' myself to exaggerate highlights a bit more. My scores have risen. Of course there are other factors (better photography, subject matter more appealing, paying others big money to vote high for me) but I am just simplifying it all to make my point, and hopefully make me look really really smart.

That all being said, good job.:D;)

SuperVIke, if you really want to sound uber-smart, you have to use words like \"improvemenet\" like I did in my post. lol lol

I agree \"stage\" make-up is needed for good photos, but I was happy to show as much highlights as I did with the reddish color to photo. I don\'t know if it is just me but I find red very hard to get right in the photo. I did notice not to leave the Christmas tree lights on when taking pictures, even if it is quite the distance away...I have some great orange Sophie pictures from this she looks very naughty in orange might I say...
I tried NMM on the bow but it came out looking undone(pics at web site WIP photos are proof of this) looked like the pewter had not been painted. I sure would need more practice to pull that off and hated to chance screwing her up.
Thanks all of you for taking the time to help. Oh.. am I grateful for the improvement comments:D It helps me cause you know sometimes the tunnel vision gets to you and it is hard to be kind to yourself.
