First attempt at layering......

This is my second mini i have painted in over 20 yrs and the first time i have tried layering. I used to just slap on some paint and dry brush to get highlights but with patience and technique building layering is great. I thin the paint at 5:1.
I\'ve spent around 4-5 hours on this mini so far and will finish the base off soon. It was just a test bed for trying out the layering and what works best for me.
It looks better than the photo\'s and i\'m pleased with the result. Only another 40 odd mini\'s to paint to get the army up and running.:eek::eek:

I used the attachment function to show a picture as per the FAQ, but it\'s not showing.

Am i missing something ?

Those are two links to the scripts that actually display the pictures, not the pictures themselves. Click those and the pictures will be displayed:

I\'ll leave the comments to someone else though as I personally have difficulties seeing the layering. Note that this might not be because you didn\'t do it well or anything, I have a feeling my monitor is dying as it is \"mudding up\" in some areas.

Struggling to see the layering....So that is a good thing at least the layers are smooth and the rest of the model is neat...
Perhaps a few slightly sharper highlights here and there may bring some of the details and the face etc out??

Also have you varnished or heavy glazed??

If Varnished I would suggest leaving varnishing until after photographing when looking for critique as the varnish makes it more difficult to view the actual paint..
Nice work though..

No varnish, just a little Klear on shoulder pads for a gloss coat for decals to stick too. Decals are not perfect, another coat of micro-sol should sort that. It\'s the lighting and the camera that seems to make the mini look glossy. But i will coat the mini in Klear then a coat of Klear/matt acrylic to seal and make the mini hard wearing.

I can see the layering, but some areas are very hard on contrast while other areas are very blended due to the layering. The model is really clean looking. Keep up the good work.
