First attempt at a Lannister Army

Hey all!

I'm pretty new to the game and, while I have yet to play my first game, I've read the rules and seen a number of tutorial and battle-report videos on YouTube. I decided to try my hand at a list...I'd love to get any and all feedback!

Commander
Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock

Combat Units
- Knights of Casterly Rock [8]

- House Clegane Mountain's Men [6]
---- Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock

- Lannister Guardsmen [5]
---- Guard Captain [1]

- Lannister Guardsmen [5]
---- Guard Captain [1]

- Gregor Clegane, The Mountain That Rides [4]

- Jaime Lannister, Maimed Hostage [2]

Non-Combat Units
- Cercei Lannister, Queen Regen [4]

- Lord Varys, The Spider [4]

One think I'm super torn over is Varys and the lack of Tyrion.
I'd love to have both, but something tells me 3 NCUs is a bit overkill.
One one hand Tyrion lets me have 4 cards and a 2/game ability to discard the opponent's tactic cards that's guaranteed to work. But Varys has a very powerful 4/game ability to negate a tactic-zone ability or NCU ability on a 3+...but it's not guaranteed. I'm a bit confused and torn which one may be best.

I mean discarding a tactic card is great and all, so is having 4 cards...but I can't ignore the fact that on a 3+ Varys might stop a crucial enemy reposition, second attack, unit heal, or 2 card draw (I'm ignoring the Crown panic test because, if I'm activating first, Cercei is going on the Crown first. If I'm activating second, Varys wouldn't have activated yet to use his ability (or can he use it even when he's not activated yet?)).

Thanks for your time reading this, and I look forward to any comments or feedback!

Hello, I prefer Tyrion for the simple reason that, as you said, his abilities are both good AND guaranteed. Varys can be an awesome game breaker, but on a 3+ roll... I personnaly prefer to reduce the randomness of any wargame I play, as much as I can. But that's me ^^
