Faces trapped in a flat surface

evil tendencies

Cake or Death?
I'm painting a daemon weapon for a Khorne Lord, and instead of the normal power weapon glow, I'd like to paint something that looks like faces or souls trapped in the blade. Can anyone point me to a good example picture of this, or a tutorial/article that shows how? My attempts haven't been so good, and I can't figure out why.

White Dwarf #331 (Jul 2007) army focus on Andrew Taylor's Soul Eaters Chaos Space Marines. Base red armour, little orange faces (2 circles for eyes, one below for mouth) patterned all over armour. Looks amazing. I'd considered doing it on my current Felf's second sword but have decided to apply it to a troll in the near future. I don't have a usable scanner but if the intersearch bears no results perhaps someone could PM you a scan? Cheers, B.

The same effect can be found in White Dwarf 302 (Feb 2005) - Terrence Peterson's Emperor's Children Dreadnought (Silver, WH40K Vehicle/Squadron, GD Chicago 2004). Cheers, B.

There's also the H.R. Giger Landscape stuff with the sequenced baby faces. Sword too small to copy this on to of course but the shapes & tones could be used for inspiration...

I also remember an 'Eavy Metal with a warriors coffin shield painted up with a stylised corpse in it, all crunched up, reminded me of the bog men that get found from time to time. If you want more realistic rather than designed faces, the squashed features of those guys who spent a few centuries in a peat bog might also be useful reference (as though they were pushing up against the transparent surface of the sword from within).

It's only me again...

Here's a quick work up of a Soul Eater Sword on an old Orc figure. I think it gets the gist across despite not being to Golden Demon standard :)

Definitely a good link for skulls at least, for deamonic faces too I guess. Make the teeth a bit longer and sharper and the bone above the eyes a more V-like shape and it wil look pretty deamonic.

Khorne's symbol but than a bit less static would do the trick, a few curves and you're there. Easier said than done of course...

Granddad!
well if I'm not too late, Tammy Haye did this with Kharn the Betrayer, it's finding a pic of it, that's the trick

Granddad!
Just checked with Tammy, wasn't her.........

..........so I don't know who did it then, a long shot but maybe one of the EM crew knows

I stand corrected!
Tammy says it was a Juggernaught she did for herself, and yes it had faces all over it. Sadly she no longer has the mini nor any pics
