Experience tracking?

So, I'm a bit of a klutz, and coupled with some rather nosy cats when I play (I'm usually floor-bound due to our table rarely getting cleaned off) I've been having some difficulties tracking experience. Are most people just using the cardboard counters, the plastic clip-it tokens, or a different system? So far I've tried the plastic things, which work, but don't seem to be particularly kind to the cards, and just having the cardboard tokens marking them, which works ok until something bumps them (me more often than the cats, to be honest) and then I have to rely on my memory.

I've thought about laminating the character cards and using dry erase, and have more recently just had someone keep track with good ol' pen and paper, but I don't know if the former will be permanent (and I have to find a lamintor first) while the latter works, but just doesn't feel quite as fun. Thoughts?

I use plastified trombones. I have small ones with which just manage to circle the XP number. It makes it clear, cheap and they slide better than the original marker arrows. IMHO, Yellow's the best colour :act-up:

I've been tempted to print up a letter sized sheet with definitions of abilities and other helpful stuff and tape the character card to the top of the sheet. And then slide the whole thing into a page protector. That way newbs have a cheat sheet and we can use wet or dry erase markers to track XP and the chosen abilities.

little clothespins are perfect for tracking XP.
I use the plactic clip-it token, but not entirely, so it can glide with no effort, and no messing with the item cards.

First thing I did when I opened my box was sleeve all the cards and the wife laminated the character sheets. Works great for us with toddlers grabbingstuff off our table.
