Epilepsy Warning

My God there is a really bad ad on the site. It is just a viciously strobing flashing red and green box and it made me feel awful after having it on screen for just a few seconds.

I\'m all for a bit of advertising on CMON, fair enough, but when it could cause people to go into fits I think it is a bit extreme.

Not excusing the annoyance, but I think if you become a \'subscribing member\' for about 1 buck a month...you can view CMoN Ad free.

It\'s not limited to CMoN, unfortunately. Those damned adverts don\'t make me feel awful, they just tweek at my already touchy irritability, and I\'m not prone to epilepsy. I\'m sure there are laws against this sort of thing on TV, but how to police the web?

Whoever thought that of all the dangerous activities you could do, it would be viewing CMON that could kill you? :D

Jambot13 dont want to alarm you but as I live with person who has this very same problem (wife)use caution around strobing lights as this is an indicator of some mild to moderate neurological problems. My wife\'s condition got worse after an auto accident in which she hit her head.DD

Oooh. I have epilepsy, the add sounds like fun. :drunk:

Actually strobing lights and such have never really triggered anything for me, seems there are almost as many triggers for epilepsy as there are epileptics. The big trigger for me has always been fatigue, odd but true the more tired I am the more likely of triggering it.

i had a lot of problems with all those ads too, including virus attack and such (all my fault sorry, i\'m not a subscriber, so you can fill my pc with spyware and all stuff). Now reinforced defence and antivirus, but i was really p!ssed when i lost 3 hours of work due a virus!!

You can\'t get an actual \'virus\' through ads and such, only by opening files, yes that\'s correct it\'s NOT possible to get a virus through ads viewed on the web. You can get spyware and such only through online content.

As for the reaction to the \'buck a month\' comment... Should Chern be denied a right to earn an income to help pay for the site because some people have epilepsy? Pay the frickin buck. If your using the site it\'s more than worth it and if your not using the site then it shouldn\'t be a problem as your not viewing the ads. I suppose video game makers should start only making games with static screens so epileptics can play them all too? Sorry to say but my sympathy does not go out to my fellow fitsters out there.

Back to the virus thingie... Get a Mac and rid yourself of viruses. :drunk:

Subscribers can have the adds turned on, maybe you havn\'t turned them off? Check your settings, because the only adds I ever see are CMoN adds for the store here and those are pretty descrete.

Games have warnings, so its the epileptics fault if they play it. CMoN doesn\'t have these warnings...

CMoN doesnt choose the ads either. It could be a sale on C12th Billmen from a historical miniatures company, nekkid women or fit inducing lights. Its luck of the draw.
