eldar banshees

hey guys
my partner has a load of old eldar that needs updating so i decided to have a go at the banshees. they need a lot of work doing to them but ive decided to take some wip pics.
the one on the right isnt the best of paintjobs even at that stage but i was trying out a colour scheme, or at least trying to get them to something similar to his others as this one was unpainted. i might strip it back again later.

the one on the left is far from finished but im happier with it and ive been trying out both a wet palette and thin layers with it which seems to be working pretty well. ive learned a lot from coolmini but the whole thing is still very much a learning process.
fortunately these are only intended for tabletop use rather then competition standard so im free to practise on them and it doesnt matter too much if i screw up lol. i dont have a photo of what they were like before but it was pretty basic though at least neatly done.

anyone got any suggestions what colour i should do the pistols? ive been experimenting with the sword a bit but it needs going over again. i cant wait until i get my magnifier.
id like to know what people think of the shading on the legs of the one on the left as thats the bit ive worked on most. i think it needs a little highlighting still.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

do the guns gold using the red from the hair to shade followed by the purple for the darkest shadows.

you already have the yellow within the gold on the model already and the other two colours use for shading should tie it in nicely.

or if you prefer silver, shade the same but bring some blue into the parts that will have the bright glare spots.
vallejo metallic medium from the model clour range is great for extra bright highlights with metals.

There\'s a thought going through my mind that the examples of the new GW/Citadel Washes I\'ve seen might be extremely suitable for the Banshees, especially the Sepia one.

Chris\'s suggestion seem good to me but of course you could use the shaped area under the main barrel/muzzle to be painted in a match to the Bone of the Armour.

i got a bit distracted from the banshees today when my new set of washes arrived and ive been trying them out on a farseer

not the best of photos of him but its dark already and my laptop is pretty much on the verge of meltdown every time i turn it on so im using my partners which has no editing software on it.. Im loving the washes though, they are fantastic.
And just as a sideline, i got bored when i was pinning a changer of ways and had some greenstuff left over so i made this.

its my second ever attempt at sculpting a face....i cant help but think it looks like Patrick Stuart.
ill get back to the banshees soon

Nicely done with the face. Is seems you have a talent for sculpting lurking behind your interest in painting, eh?

Question for you re: the new washes. The pic of the farseer looks like it\'s got a fair bit of shine to it. The reds in particular. Is that from the washes? Is it just the camera work?

One of the challenges I\'ve wrestled with using inks is the high gloss they leave. I\'m curious if it\'s the same with the new washes.

thanks for the comment, yeah i do really like sculpting, ill have to do some more, i just lack in confidence really.

actually the new washes leave a very matte apperance, the shine in this is just from the fact it was taken at night under a really bright light, theres no shine on it at all in real life apart from the gemstones which were done with a different glaze.
ill tyr and get a better photo next time.
