Dwarf Bases

Hey guys,

I have a few questions and hoping someone out there can give me a hand. I am building a dwarf army and I want to do a little more with their bases.

I have some cork I want to use to make rocky outcrops with snow on them. My question is do you guys usually paint the models together or do you paint the model and the bases separately?

I was thinking that it would be done by painting them together, drybrush the rock and paint the model, then add the snow to the finished model. This seems like it would work but it seems like it would be hard to get the snow under the dwarf if he is glued to the cork before hand.

I am thinking of using the baking soda-joint compound mix for the snow unless you guys have better suggestions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

bicarbonate of soda instead of baking soda, it\'s real snow you know.......
A dwarf wouldn\'t be on top of the snow :D, and it would be difficult to get the puddy under a mini with that short legs anyway, so I would say just paint it together and push the puddy as close to the mini as possible. Don\'t think anyone will be able to tell the difference.
The puddy it self is a bit thick to work with and you have to add plenty as it \"dries in\" when it...eh dries .

Normally, I would paint the base and mini separately (but put the snow on after the mini is attached to the base), but I don\'t paint armies. I think it would save you lots of time to attach the dwarves on the base before painting.

The snow definitely should go on last as the dwarves would look awkward standing on top of the snow. Like Manus said, do the best you can with getting the snow under the dwarf.

Paiting an army I usually paint together. Always undercoat after decorated base anyway as undercoat helps double secure it.

Painted some chaos warriors seperatly recently though as using slate bases, so securing mini securely later was easy anyway

i actually did a dwarf on a snow base recently (is in my gallery if you want to see)
i did the base seperatly to the dwarf and added the snow before the dwarf but while the snow was still \'wet\' i pressed the dwarf on so he left an impression and the snow was then around his feet slightly

Thanks for all of the great advice. I think I am gonna try it with the dwarf attached and see how that turns out. You have all been a great help! :)
