Drop pod doors, terrain or part of the "vehicle"

A quick question about Drop Pods. I know that they count as an imobillised vehcile after they land, but do the doors class as part of the vehcile meaning I have to stay 1" away from them or do they just class as terrain and only the actual hull of the pod count as the vehicle part? (meaning I could walk over the doors but stay 1" away from the hull)

Another query with them is does it matter if the doors cant open? My opponent moved my grav tank out the way so he could open his doors, then put it back after. I was like "WTF are you doing", he said it didn't matter, he then disembarked a dreadnought out of the door that technically couldn't open and vapourised my tank.

Do the doors just get blown off completely and the ones on the model are just there to look pretty and count as open terrain when on the board?

The GW staff were helpful as usual "I think so" was their reply :S

The way I understand it is this:

The doors do count as difficult terrain once they are opened, and it's the hull of the pod itself that counts as the vehicle.

As for opening doors:

When units are trying to exit a drop pod each door is considered an access point just like a vehicle. If the access point is blocked then the unit is not allowed to exit from that access point. ***I believe any unit that exits a vehicles access point has to maintain 1" of distance between themselves and any hostile units.*** So a dreadnought shouldn't be able to exit the pod and be less than 1" away from your grav tank. Your opponent would have to use a different access point (though I thought drop pods had 3 doors?)

Don't drop pods have to maintain a minimum distance from enemy units when they drop, anyways?

***Have to verify this, don't have books onhand***

General rule of thumb: If you need to move your opponents units to perform something, you can't perform it.

That's exactly what I said to him :) I think they have about 5 doors, one on each side. As the doors are about 3-4" long he could've deployed the dreadnought at least an inch away from me, if he could've got the door open without moving my tank. I said that as he couldn't open the door he couldn't use that one to exit the drop pod, but had to use one of the others. (which he wasn't happy about, god knows why cause he was still in range)

What you said about remianing one inch away is correct, I got pulled up about this as my fire dragons were stood on his door when they disembarked and turned the dreadnought to molten slag. I was told that I couldn't have deployed there as they were within 1" of the door (as they were stood on it), if it's only the hull that counts then I was more than 1" away as I was only stood on the tip of the door
