Dreads as leaders?

No, you can only call a dreadnought a chapter master or whatever in a fluff sense, so, the former chapter master, mortally wounded, now interred into the dreadnought armour.

At least in a normal sense of a set up for a battle, there may be some weird set up that I cant think of that allows it, but not in any of my knowledge.

Reason I ask, other than the fact that it would look DAY-AM impressive is, if the leader of an army was injured/killed in battle, yet you had the ability to keep thier spirit in a machine to continue to fight, wouldnt said leader still technically be the leader?

Only one that ever did that in fluff was Bjorn of the Space Wolves.
Not sure HOW to do that, but I\'d think the SM Dread would be the only possibility.
Eldar dreads are flighty gits.
Ork Dreads wouldn\'t lead, they\'d just get stuck in faster.
And Chaos would elevate to daemonhood rather than be interred.

SW can take a Dreadnaught as their leader if they want to.

They must take 1 HQ for every 750 points in their army (So 1-750 - 1, 751-1500 - 2, 1501-2250 - 3, etc). In the SW army, Venerable Dreadnaughts (WS, BS and I of 5) are 0-1 choice and can be counted as either an Elite or an HQ choice.

Space Wolves can take Venerable Dreadnoughts as HQ. Nobody else can in-game.

A lot of the time Dreads are still revered for their wisdom and insight, but often their consciousness has degraded to the point where they talk and act like the Hulk. \"TANKRED SMASH!\"

Me? Sensible? I hadn\'t realized I had that reputation. Anyway, I did answer the question, although not entirely correctly. I wasn\'t aware that the space wolves could have them as HQ.

Ok, so you dont really, I just made it up for comedic value :p

And I didnt know that either, but space wolves shouldnt count with anything.

What about the iron warriors warsmith. The one mentioned in \'storm of iron\' (i think) He was a nasty dreadnought with lots of weapons and a huge hammer thingy...I\'m not being very helpful here am I

We Chaos only have aspiring Champions, Lords, and such, unless they release a supplement for all of the non black legion armies after the Demon codex. Iron Hands do have War Smiths instead of Company captains but they are non traitor, as Iron Warriors are a now under represented paint scheme. I think they may have made the two legions too similar in name. argh, i sound like a rules lawyer.

Iron Warriors have Warsmiths which were an upgrade for chaos lords in the last codex. Iron Warriors are siege and fortification specialists and great rivals with the Imperial Fist Legion/Chapter.

Iron Hands have Iron Fathers not Warsmiths. Wheras Iron Warriors make more use of bionics than the other CSM legions, Iron Hands upgrade themselves in religeous rituals. They see all flesh as weak and progressively augment themselves throughout their lives. They also don\'t specialise in the same kind of tactics as Iron Warriors.

In the fiction there are a few Dreadnought Leaders. One in \"Dead Sky Black Sun\" and one in \"Iron Hands\".

In games however unless you play Space Wolves you can\'t do it.

If you had an Apocalypse army you could use a dreadnought as your Leader as you cn do pretty much anything in that game.

Hope it helps.

Yeah, its all pretty much a kill fest in that, so I dont see it makes a huge difference in what models are what in that.

Mind, Id probably avoid taking a dread as a captain or something, but I use dreads are close assault support units, wading in behind the terminators for the big guns up close.

Saying that, I also get all the fun dark angels dreadnoughts.

Looking forward to getting a few games of that in when I get back home.
