Hello there.

I'm currently working on the Darksword miniatures female anti-paladin. My two previously posted miniatures in CMON were test subjects on some of the techniques I'm using. With this mini I hope to get up to between a 7-8 rating so any suggestions on how to improve it would be most welcome.

I'm particularly interested in what you think of:
The front of the sword, is the NNM believable/smooth enough?

The colour and glass-like effect of the armor. I tried to use blueish white to highlight from above and
yellow white for the ground reflections, has this worked?

The shield... smooth enough and is it an OK effect?

The face... is it of a decent standard and how could I improve it.

The overall colour choice and the skin tone.

Things that are incomplete are:
Anything that is red, I need more highlights on the cloak and some work on the straps etc. Is the blend smooth enough so far?

The hair. I'm going to work with washes and drybrushing to get this looking deeper and more realistic.

Some parts of the glass armor... on the left foot, the reverse of the shield, her collar and the shoulder pad next to her shield.

I'm taking my pictures using a hand-held (no tripod) phone camera so these are basically the best pictures I could take at the mo.

Please post any other comments, suggestions and critique as well.

Cheers.

Thanks for your comments and encouragement Cheefly and Generi. I nicked the idea from my favourite game Oblivion. Here's an example of the glass armour in the game. I'm glad you think it's coming along OK. I've just finished all the armour and I'm working on the cloak (I hate blending/layering red, for some reason I find it the most difficult colour) and hair. Once I get those done I'll post new pics so I can get some advice about what to do for the next big step, the base.

OK I've come up with a base design for the model. I once read in an article written by a great painter (can't remember who) that the base should contain all the colours that you have on your miniature. The green is easy (moss/grass etc) but what about the red?

I thought about blood splatters but so far my model is pretty clean with no battle damage or dirt so blood splatters wouldn't make sense. So I think I'll go with autumn leaves.

I did a quick sketch and paint of what I want the base to look like and also to see if I've got the colours right. They're in the attachments. This should act as a reference for me when I come to model the base... also I think I'll mess around with the composition a bit (more leaves and a slight wind blown clustering effect I think).

OK I finished the base. Used wall filler and some stones I bought from a gardening store (they were gold when I bought them... why would anyone want gold stones in a garden?). Not sure about the leaves though. I used some coriander for them and a different herb my girlfriend was "drying out" for the plant things. Hope she doesn't miss the bit I took.

Anyway, if anyone has any comments and suggestions that would be great. Just waiting for a decent camera now before I upload this onto CMON but will make alterations if they are suggested.

Looks great and the base fits the overall feel of the model.

Your blending and techniques are great on the cloth and armor.

Great Job

OK I borrowed a better camera and uploaded the finished model to CMON. After a few votes I'm on a 6 rating and don't know why so comments would be most appreciated.

Please vote and comment here.

I started this WIP somewhat near the end (that's just how far I got before deciding to start a log). My next project will be posted from the very start.
