Basically just roll it into thin sausages, and wedge it into the cracks, the use a sculpting tool, or something else with a fine, but round tip to push the green stuff into the right places.

Pinning the bastard thing first would be a huge help.

I used to use water but after reading some stuff on here I switched to vaseline.

I find rubbing vaseline on my tool greatly improves its performance.

Lets see how long it takes someone to take that out of context:cool:

You\'ll go blind.....................1 hour 12 minutes.

There are a number of recent threads in this section of the forum(s) dealing with sculpting fur etc have a look there are some hints & tips in them.

Mixing wise:
Equal parts or as guided

How I mix: I roll the yellow and blue strips into separate sausages to begin with, then twist them around each other like rope.

Then I simply squish and squash in various directions, pulling pieces off and mixing it back together until it appears a fairly regular green colour throughout.

Sometimes you\'ll find you\'ve added a little more blue, or yellow and the green might end up slightly darker or lighter.

This merely affects the \"curing\" time, which is the amount of time the green stuff takes to go hard. I\'m not CERTAIN, but this may also affect the flexibility once dried too.

Any putty that have left can be used for making simple small objects, such as:
  1. The wax seals of purity seals
  2. Roll into a thin sheet and punch out small circles (With the nib of a retractable pencil for example) for use as rivets
  3. Rocks

When im greenstuffing I always tear of what I think I will use, then only mix half of that. I normally get it about right without much waste if I do that.

Beefy, I am by no means a decent GS sculpter, but I can fill a gap. Get a few dental tools (auto parts store are good for this). Maybe some small rubber shapers from the craft store. Toothpicks work in a pinch as well.

Mix the GS together, let it set for about 10 minutes before you try to do anything with it. The first 10 minutes it is like fresh-chewed bubble gum. Sticks to everything but what you want it to stick to. Get a small cup and keep your tools wet. (olive oil will work too, but may affect adhesion of layers)(spit also works if you are of the brush licker type anyway).

Push a bit of GS into the gap, push a bit more than you need and start pushing around the extra until it looks like the rest of the area around the gap (scales, feathers, armor, etc.). You mentioned feathers (large gryphin?), that is not going to be easy. Do a very small amout at a time and make each one right, then add a bit more GS and work your way around the seam.

And if you haven\'t got Vaseline you could try a little margarine. This does not seam to affect the adhesion in any way.:)

no it\'s not. originally, it was designed as a plumbing putty so it has to be non toxic!

i lick my tools (boom boom) and rather than use vaseline, i use sebum (skin oil) just rub your fingers on your nose or forehead

I\'d strongly recommend you degrease the surface anyway as there\'s a lot of oil in margarine; it is mostly fat after all.

But don\'t go licking your sculpting tools, that stuff (not the margarine) is toxic.
I would agree that it\'s a bad idea to get into the habit of licking your sculpting tools (brushes too) but the rumours about the toxicity of GS have been exaggerated a bit.
