Difference between Vallejo game colour and model colour ?

Hi guys, after this hot spell we have had, my gameswork shop paints have all but dried up, damn them paint pots!

I had one white paint from Vallejo, so I check that and no problem with it at all, so I changed over last night.

I order the whole set of VMC got a nice discount also for buying the set, and to my shock it came this very morning!

So I opened my box and the paints are different to the one I had.

I now have complete set of \"Model\" paints and one pot of white \"Game\" colour, I had no idea there was two types.

So my question is whats the difference if any, and did I buy the right range?

Another quick question, at the moment I am using GW brushes, I thought since I just got new paints, maybe I should upgrade my brushes also, which ones should I go for and where can I buy them.

thanks.

the game colour is basically the same colours as gws line

model colours is more extenisve and more for display minis rather than gaming

Model colour has a better range, as James said. It is designed with display painting in mind, so the paints have a better consistency and dry very matte. Game colour is more for gaming mins; maybe it dries tougher? I don\'t know.

Granddad!
You pretty much got it Bill
Game color and Model color are different formulations.
GC as you\'d expect being formulated with the gamer in mind is harder and doesn\'t rub off as easy as MC which is primarily aimed at the static display modeller.

If you are gonna game with VMC painted minis give them a coat of gloss varnish followed by a couple of matt coats once you have finished painting. Also it doesn\'t hurt to dullcoat areas you\'ve just finished just as a precaution

Chrismisterx: Since you\'ve splashed out on good paints, you\'ed be better off with quality brushes.

The Newcastle Arts Centre on Westgate Road stock Windsor & Newton Series 7.
(You\'ll have to ask for them as they are mostly kept in the cabinet, to stop them wandering off I suppose).
It\'s worth looking for a few specifically, as to start with you should only need 4 (a 1, 0, 00, 000 sizes). There are other makes and style of brushes as well (not quite as expensive) but the benefit of holding the brush in your hand and checking the tip is enormous for a miniature painter.

The Art Centre also stock Flow Aid and Paint retarder as well as Brush Soap (Da Vinci). It\'s worth making a specific trip into Newcastle as there are also other bits and pieces there, (Fimo, Scuplty, Wet Pallettes Clay shapers etc...)

Oh and as it\'s pretty close to the Central station you shouldn\'t have a great deal of trouble finding it.
Big Plus just around the corner (150 yards or so) is the Travelling Man Comic book store which has a stock of Rackham and Privateer Press figures. Go on, you know you want too. :D

just been back to visit the folks in Lowestoft........the Home of Windsor and Newton!!!! A local art store had some No 7\'s under lock and key, and he showed me a size 12 No 7 brush - big brush if ever I saw one. Then he showed me the price: £154!!!!:eek:

sheesh!!!

Apparently, it\'s a 7 year training period to learn how to make these brushes. But they are now over in China teaching the skills to the local labour force; cheaper rates but I bet the prices do not fall..........
