Deffkon 1 (buncha ork stuff)

Recently I got a boat load of orks pretty cheaply in a trade.(for 14 plague marines and a greater daemon)

(some stuff not pictured)The painted stuff I had previously

so I've started some projects and really skimped on painting as of late.

For my dragon*con 1k army I use a warboss and only then. First I fixed his targeter eye deciding he needed a giant bulging "Crazy" eye. then I decided I would magnetize hats on him to swap in and out once every turn. Still have 5 more planned.

Secondly I've been restoring a used and abused Battlewagon I decided to add a deck on the roof.

The comes a looted rhino I've been working on (and now you can wonder what the color scheme on the Battlewagon I've been restoring was)I plan to add 2 diffrent tops to it. One with a boomgun that looks kinda like a big offset vindicator and a troop carying platform.

A unit of biker nobz I've been converting (ran out of tires)

A dok I started painting durring my game night but never finished (Fun model, but low painting priority since I don't run him in any of my lists)

Lastly a dynamicly posed ork out of some of the bits that I got in the trade too.

OK, that deck on the battlewagon is genius! And although the hat swapping is strange, it's really funny - I like that as well.

good trade.. *bg*

But the first hat I dont like. I suggest an old grandma hat with a flower ontop and a party hat... *smile*

Thanks! The previous owner had plastic glued in both a grabba claw(with the ork in the turrent sitting crooked) and glued in the big shoota turret. Using the wagon strictly as a transport I needed to pull them off, which due to crazy amounts of plastic glue had me leveling off both turret mounts. Figured I should do something fun with it then.

In soviet Russia, Grandmas wear Ushankas?

Oh wait... I get what your saying... I should add a grandma hat? I have misread your CORRECT english. Noted. :D

cool idea that hatswap. also, i think youve done an excellent job with removing de boss tageter eye! paintwise, i dont know your plans for the skincolours, but right now i think he's a bit too yellow. saying this, ive noticed the other boyz in the army have great skin. anyway its a huge army, at least you got some stuff to paint... :D

...that painboy really give me the chills... (just spent like a month painting it myself) :doctor:

No Taggi, I understood you. You used correct english. I just misread it.

Skell > Yeah I know. I like a little yellow in my orks.( they're from an ice world, I like them looking a little wilted) I usually start with a Bubonic Brown base or their skin color then guild the green up with a couple coats of Thrakka green and Badab black befoe I start hilighting yellow and bleached bone. The boss was just bascoated and quick-washed so I'd have an idea how the eye looked. the previous owner had put an emrald green basecoat on him which was too close to the greenstuff color for me to tell.

Oh, there are so many hats he could take. A Yankee's baseball cap, a bright yellow construction hat, a nurse's cap, a knitted hat with a big poofball on top. I'd probably have made a dozen or so just for the fun of it.

EDIT: Oh, and for fun and when you find the time (!!!), a retinue of grots lugging around hatboxes. After all, he'll need some place to keep 'em!

The hats is the best idea I've heard in a while. I'd like to add another vote for Taggi's "Grandma Garden Hat" idea.

Like so. Also, you almost have to do a birthday party hat. It'd be easy too, just a cone. Ah hah. I really want to steal this idea.

I painted this today. unit's still not doen but it's 1 of 3 blackreach boxes mostly down. Next unit will probably be wearing bleached bone clothes so I can keep the units streight when they all deploy at once.

Anywho.. I had a good chance to sit down with a friend and I'm sure he enjoyed hearing about how much I hate painting orks all day while he painted necrons. SOmehow I could have painted his army 3x over today.

once you look at it you realize how much farther I have to go on them. Half of them don't have eyes teeth or nails, no hair painted, no red or metalics, no delvan mud on one of them... it's alot. I'm just glad I got them to the point that I could glue them on their bases.

First unit completely painted.

I didn't like how the "weathered copper" turned out on a couple of them and probably won't add it to the next set, but since I've got 120+ more orks to go, I'm not going to worry about it too much.

Next unit, I'm thinking Brown, Khaki, or Yellow clothing with red/silver armor. It's kind of hard deploying 60 boyz out of 3 trucks near eachotehr and keeping them streight if they look alike.

end of day 2 (3am waiting on fiancee to get home safely due to snow) The leather straps/belts/boots/gloves is always the worst and most tedious part of painting orks in assembly line. Today I'll do the reds I think, leaving metallics and details(teeth eyes, nails, hair) to finish them off Next week is spring break so I may cram in 2 units of boyz this month.

Also note these are the pots of Devlan mud I've killed since I started painting orks, the wash was pretty thin trying to get these last 20 in.

Test cast for my resin bases I plan to do the whole army in. turned out rather well. I need to buy more silicone before I can start casting them in batches of 10.

Ok, 2nd unit done and sealed.. then I notice I missed a few details like painting tongues... and one of the guys on the front row's feet plates.

I may fix that today, I may wait for a while since I still have 100+ orks to paint.
