Crystal Skull Tomb King Army Log

So am starting out a tomb king army for a league here locally. Main reason is it is an army anyone hardly ever sees played and I like those off the beaten path armies.

The main idea is to make them look different and interesting. I had originally planned to do them as if they were under the moon at night with some interesting night effects and OSL, but the more I got to thinking about it the less I liked it and then I thought the crystal skulls would be very cool looking, especially if the bodies of the skeletons were all black like the constructs in the army.

So anyhoo, here is the first round of figures I have started, all WIP still, but getting there.

I don\'t intend for these to be Golden Demon quality, but still visually interesting.

I love the weapons on the bone giant. They fit the theme of the army very well and are greatly stylized. Great work.

Great idea for the theme. Although I am against the all black apart for the skulls. I think you should paint the skeletons regularly leaving the crystal skulls. This will give the army more dept and break up the monotony of all black.

Should be a neat army! I also see a Casket of Souls lurking in the back... you\'ll have Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Crystal Skull references all in the same army how fitting ;)

Love the 2-for-1 deal on the Tomb Scorpions btw they look good and cost half as much this way :)

Howdy.

Ok so a little more progress this past weekend. I worked out the crystal skull to something I find acceptable. I was having some trouble getting it to look right with a blue, light blue and white gem type of style.

What I found worked better was to repaint all the skulls with turquois and a little BW scaly green mixed in. Then used straight turquois ( vallejo) then mixed with white and then pure white.

While I am not overly satisfied with the results, I think for a war gaming army, and in the interests of time, this is more than accpetable. I think it looks like a glass or crystal skull and only takes me about 10 minutes per skull.

I want to continue to make pregress and getting bogged down in painting one aspect is not the way to go..especially on rank and file. I plan to take more time on the more pronounced units, such as the Bone giant and the characters.

Anyhoo, here they are up for review. I hope you find them up to snuff.

C&C and ideas always welcome. Thanks!!

Howdy, been a while.

Anyhoo, I am back at it, making new additions to this army as time allows. Most notably is my second Bone giant. A much simpler conversion than the first one, but equally imposing I think.
