Creating raised sections on armour, best method ?

The best way to describe the effect I want to make is to imagine a space marine should shield/pad. I would like to make some extra raised sections that are vertical and horizontal like a cross. I was thinking of doing this (on flat sections) with 1mm plastic sheet or cardboard. Curves sections are more difficult and would probably have to use green stuff.

How do you get a piece of green stuff to be a perfect long strip the same thickness all the way along. My guess is you have to use a blade and somehow cut it perfectly. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

If your talking about the thickness of the putty itself, a clay roller could work. Not sure I'd do the pasta machine like the polymer clay people use as I can see the GS gumming things up. But if your talking about trying to make it the same width all the way across, like a belt strip, maybe grab a long enough butcher knife and make the slices with it.

Edit: just had another thought. If your talking about making a strip with parallel sides, perhaps a fork or shaver comb would work. Something that would have parallel sides that you could use like a cookie cutter.

I think the usual way is to roll it out into rough shape (slightly wider but not thicker), let it cure for a bit then go back and slice it into the final dimension (razor, scalpel, something sharp and thin). Then get it on the model while it's still soft, bit of super glue helps with adhesion (less is more). Flatten it out between sheets of wax paper or plastic wrap, to get it to a uniform thickness you can squash it with something flat, like a plate, tile, etc. Lots of plates, cups, and such have a ridge on the bottom, so if the ridge is the right height you can just push it down flat. Other way is you can roll it out with a marker, rolling pin, coffee cup, to make it uniform put the putty between 2 dowel rods, 2 piles of paper, 2 whatevers of the right thickness.
