After posting about various must-have paint colors, I started thinking of paint recipes as I would need to convert some of my GW recipes into Vajello. This got me thinking, why don\'t we have a Recipe Database? If we do already, please someone post the link! But if not, this is what I\'ve compiled from files and posts at YahooMinipainterlist, CMoN, and some I wrote down in a little notebook that I have no idea where I got them from.
Please keep in mind, these are not tutorials just colors needed for
various effects. Let me know your thoughts on what I have so far,
also whether I\'ve made any major goofs in the color combinations. If anyone has any recipes to contribute, PLEASE do
so! :)
Thanks everyone!! :bouncy:

PS: Posted this at Minipainter as well.
Going to keep this updated til there is enough for an article. :)

After a list is finished, this might make a good article! (Well, if a list is ever finished...) Is it possible to edit an article after it has been submitted?

I put up some article and didn\'t realize it had to be in HTML format. When I tried to delete it it says \"This is not your article.\" oh well. Most of the stuff I put up is in this list already.

Keep working on the list that is a good thing I have some of that stuff from mini-painter list too.

Bye

Thanks Cypher :) I\'m going to keep working on it and some of it did indeed come from your post here, I\'d like to give credit for everyone that posted stuff but honestly I don\'t even have all the names. When I first started the list in my notebook I just wrote stuff down that I thoguht my help..now I see I should\'ve kept up with everyone\'s names. ah well :(

In any case I hope to get a few more recipes, before making it into an article or posting it in the files of minipainter, especially NMM..I only have a few of those and it seems to be a very popular question among new folks..like me :D

Take care and happy painting!

Yeah some recipes and how-to\'s on painting NMM would be nice.

Painting flesh tones with Vallejo paints would be nice too. I find they are too yellow out of the bottle for caucasian skin I have to do a bunch of mixing to get tones I like for caucasian flesh.

My recipe for caucasian fleshes so far with Vallejo:

Caucasian Flesh/Northern European (pinkish hue)
Brown Rose base coat ( I personally just paint all the cravesses instead)
2 drops of brown rose 1 drop of Basic Skintone for the first highlight
another drop of basic skintone for the next
use pure basic skintone for the next highlight
if you like mix a little light flesh into the basic skintone for the final highlights

Sunburnt Caucasian/mediterenean
Mahogany Brown
2 drops mahogany 1 drop flesh (dark flesh or medium flesh)
another drop of flesh
pure flesh for the final highliht (dark or medium)
Use a little bit of light flesh and mix into the flesh color for final highlights

Another light skin/egyptian look
Light Brown base
2 drops light brown 1 drop Dark flesh
add another drop of dark flesh
pure dark flesh for final highlights
mix alittle light flesh into the dark for final details

Another Caucasian/northern european
Use flat flesh and citadel dwarf flesh mix
put some more flat flesh
final highlight with straight flat flesh

Sunny brown caucasian/middle eastern
Pretty much the same as mahogany but use Sunny Skintone instead.

Now to compile for asian and african and other skintones.

OOps!!! That\'s a bug. Yes you can keep editting an article in progress, even after it\'s approved (when you edit it it gets taken off the index). I\'ve fixed it now so you can delete the article as well.

Paint Recipes

Excellent idea for a post... although most of us painters have little tricks and tips that work for us, and only for us...

As a \'classically trained\' artist, I learned that in each portrait/self-portrait/figure study a person does, they tend to put a little of themselves into it. It\'s evident with miniatures as well, at least to my knowledge.

I tend to use colors that I am stronger and more confident with more often than problem colors... And I also tend to have my flesh tones lean toward the pale side, since it reflects my coloration (LOL, although I haven\'t done any sunburned minis yet... blasted genetics). Anyway, I would encourage you (all) to post your recipes so we can try them out and experiment, and who knows, maybe find something that works for us as well... As for Vallejo paints, I have yet to use them at all... I find that Citadel works best for me (they are readily avaliable when I need them at a local store, and I have lots of miniatures for armies using the same colors).

Anyway though, good luck with this listing, and maybe sometime we can see some of the techniques in examples? That would be cool.
