Ok, I aint played/painted anything since 2nd Ed wh40k. When I was painting there seemed to be one colour used on bases.............\"Goblin Green\"! Oh yes, those golf course bases, flat green flock on a \"goblin green\" base. Is there a standard clour that is prefered now? I\'ve seen all sorts of shades of greens and browns and quite a lot of plain black ones. I\'m mainly talking the rims here of course, as the base itself is usualy covered in lil rocks, static grass etc.

Apologies for such a lame question!

I don\'t think it\'s a lame question at all. In my experience, the best colour to choose is one that distracts least from the mini and base \"proper\". If there\'s a lot of grass, a muted green or brown would work, and perhaps use a very dark grey for rocky bases, and so on. I don\'t use black a lot because it can be too harsh, but there are times when it\'s appropriate. In any case, put the Goblin Green down and back sloooowly away... :D (Unless of course it\'s a slime base you\'re painting!)

It depends on if you want your bases to blend into your gaming table or if you just want them to look neat. For display purposes I find black to be the best colour. I would guess that black base rims would be best accepted if you want to show off your minis here as well. Unless you do something special with it that would explain another colour or finish.

The current standard is to only paint and decorate the top of the base and leave the sides black. Or if you are messy or use non-black bases, paint them black.
