Citristrip

Okay, so I just got back from home depot and got this \"Citristrip\" stuff for stripping my minis of paint.
A few questions
1. About how long will it take to strip about 2 layers of paint?

2. Will it corrode or destroy GW\'s gray stuff?

3. Will it corrode or destroy plastic?

Thanks

Test it first...

My suggestion is read the label carefully, if you\'re in ANY doubt, before you plop one of your figs in the stripper, try some sprue. Leave the sprue in the stripper for a few hours, come back, if it\'s melting, don\'t attempt to remove paint with it. The best paint thinner I\'ve ever used is Chameleon Thinner. Hope this helped.

Same goes for me Finn.

I recently (the other day in fact) decided to have a little experimentation with household products. Previously my stripper of choice was acetone for metal and Modelstrip for plastic (it also works on metal but acetone was just better). First thing I found under the sink was Mr Muscle Kitchen Cleaner. It works a treat! It\'s almost as good as acetone but without the poisonous vapour and it appears to be safe on plastic! What more could you want? It\'s only a couple of quid for a bottle of the stuff as well which is much better than spending a tenner or so on a can of acetone and then getting stiffed an extra £7 postage because it has to be sent via courier!

I imagine there must be a number of household chemicals that will do the job. Whoever would have thought Dettol would work, before DR\'s experient???
I will have to get my hands on some Mr Muscle because I have some plastic minis I would like to strip:D

think about putty too

You might also want to test the citristrip on putty too - just in case you run into a problem with a converted model. I use Castrol\'s \"Super Clean,\" which is an engine degreaser, and it works quite well on metal and plastic. It softens putty a little bit, but it hardens up again when dry.

Good luck Firespin, and let us know how it turns out.

Success..... sorta....

Well I tested it on plastics and a small ball of putty, the plastic melted, and the putty softened, of course i neglected to wait long enough for the putty to dry. But the good thing is this stuff cleans the model in between 30 minutes and an hour.

It also has a nice citrusy orange scent, ill get back to you on dried putty and metal models
:)
