Unfortunately I don\'t have the names, but the Sword was won by an amazing Dwarf Troll Slayer vs River Troll in the duel category.

Plenty of eye candy to be had for sure. But at the same time I noticed a few \"missing\" entries from a couple of the bigger names. I don\'t think the hometown favorite, Jennifer Haley, had a entry.

There were some tough categories beyond the usual fantasy/40k single. I remember 40K vehicle, LOTR single, Fantasy large, and duel having mutiple amazing entries.

As far as the youth movement, I liked the set-up. I think there were more things to keep them occupied this year besides the speedpainting like that conversion contest, painting tables, and terraing making tables.

I was there too. And I don\'t recall the name of the sword winner, but I think the piece was deserving of the sword.

Doug Jones took first in Warhammer single, 40k single, LoTR single, and the open.

LoTR single was tough too as second place was an awesome mounted Aragorn.

Nurgle dreadnaught took first in 40k vehicle followed by a Slaanesh dread, and a dread by Joe Orteza took third. This was a tough category. The metals on the Slaanesh dread were awesome. Personally i would have given first to the Slaanesh dread, but that is because I am getting nurgled out, not necessarily because of painting quality.

I took gold in Warhammer regiment(Dwarf longbeards) and Large Monster/War machine(Goblin Wolf Chariot). Was disappointed my duel didn\'t place, but eh, that\'s life.

Jen Haley did not enter. She did help do some judging though. No Ben Bishop. Overall quality IMO was down from last year, but not in the winning pieces.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys. Congratulations on your wins Herb the Bitter. That makes good showings for you two years in a row. It seems that there were a few past US slayer winners that didn\'t make it to a US event this year. I haven\'t seen anything from Liliana Troy this year, nothing from Jen Haley either. If anyone has any pictures or a link to pictures please post them

Definitely some great entries

Chris Boren (sp? I think I got that right) took the slayer with his duel. The River Troll and Slayer were so good either of them would have placed as a single miniature entry.

I took home a silver in Single Fantasy for my first Demon. Doug\'s piece however, blew it away.

Others that I know of......

Adam Catt took third in Duel and Dave Pauwels was third in LOTR Single.

The LOTR categories are no longer to be considered a weaker group. The single category had as many quality pieces as any of the others.

As for the other painters, I heard Liliana has too much going on this year with her real job and Jen didn\'t have anything ready.

I agree with that.

Congrats on your silver. My WFB single entry made the cut, but as I looked at the other stuff that made the cut too, I knew mine had absolutely no chance of placing.

Brian Shaw took silver in fantasy regiment I believe.

Chris Borer won the sword with his brilliant Duel. Truly sword-worthy.

I\'m pretty sure Bryan Shaw wasn\'t in attendence.

Doug Jones is really the man! I believe his Borimir in the LotR single is possibly the best LotR single to date. I was truely lucky to get the bronze.

Congrats to Terry on his Silver in Fantasy Single- I knew eventually you\'d get that first demon.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of the great stuff about Chicago will be, at least partially, eclipsed by some controversy about the judging. When the coverage is up, people will be able to see for themselves, suffice it to say that it appeared that a painter\'s identity was taken into consideration. That a painter\'s identity and past achievements would be taken into consideration is wholly intolerable-I think most would agree.

Congrats on your LoTR demon. Everyone who got a demon in that category certainly earned it.

I was pretty sure that the guy who took second place in fantasy regiment was named Brian Shaw, though not necessarily THE Bryan Shaw. When I was standing in line behind him to have the pic taken he had his name on a tag and it was spelled Brian. I was confused at the time as I thought THE Bryan Shaw spelled his name with a \"y\", and I didn\'t know what Bryan Shaw looks like to know better. I could be completely off the wall though.

EDIT: (If anyone cares) I put a few pics of my duel entry in this thread:

Oh- I got ya, another Brian Shaw. Sorry about that.

I really liked that Duel, Herb, very cool. Although I think I liked the Dwarfs best of your stuff- they looked nice and grim. Congrats to you.

I too, would like to congratulate you on those dwarfs. The were the first entry in that category that caught my eye, and they deserved the gold. I am just trying to figure out how my duel got picked over yours....???

I\'ve been waiting to see more pictures too. There were so many good pieces to look at. I was amazed at how strong some of the categories were.

In the meantime, I managed to get pictures of my figure up. Take a look and see what you think.

I\'m hoping we get more good pictures of Chris\' duel.

If anyone has posted pictures of something they entered, please point us to them.

And Adam..thanks for taking a look at my other pieces, I have so many things I want to do with paint now, I hate to go to work. I seem to get this fever right after every GamesDay.

Marco Columbo, Valten or Flora. I loved the Flora entry.

I also entered Fantasy siungle but had really no chance of even making the cut, and in the end wasn\'t even considered but did overhear a few people talking about my entry with generally positive things to say.

Mine, if anyone was wondering was the Blood Dragon based off the Archaon model. The really red one.

Either way, hopefully I\'ll have better luck next year.

I agree its intolerable but how exactly is it possible, asides from in cases like, Mr. Orteza\'s piece where you can easily see that he did it?

Mine was the guy with all the roses(it\'s converted from the Slaanesh champion). I didn\'t finish converting him until Wednesday afternoon, and so I was a bit lazy with the painting. Still happy with his overall appearance though. At least I probably set a record for most flowers ever on one mini.:)

I thought the roses were great. I was sure that had you spent more time highlighting the flowers you would have placed. It surely deserved to make cut just from the sheer detail of the conversion.

Nice work! Do you have any pics of it? And have you gone back to finish the painting?
