Chaos Space Marines: Blood Angels or Brothers of Darkness?

Hello. I acquired a box set of ten plastic chaos space marines. I also aquired about 20 metal chaos space marines and a box that I still have not counted. I have never played a single game as of Yet. I do hope to play one in the near future. I really have not done that much research yet. I began painting a few in black and red. After doing some research I found two armies I liked. My first pick would be the brotherhood of darkness followed by blood angels. I do have a few questions as what weapons to arm them with. Any suggestions or fighting styles would be appreciated.
My second question is how do you go about painting insignia rank and regiment markings? Is there a certain number to rank or battle group size? My last question is on the figure on the yogurt cup. What kind of chaos space marine is it? Thank you. I hope my photos are of the correct size.

Blood angels aren't technically chaos, although, some would argue, are tainted. Guy at the bottom is abbadon the undefeated. No nothing else about the background or fluff about them

You would need to get the codex for Chaos Marines. I have not read the Chaos codex, so I don't know if they still use rank or not. As for weapons load out, it is determined by the role on the batttlefield. Tank hunters: Lascannon, meltagun, power weapon, krak missiles. Suppression/horde killers: sniper rifle, heavy bolter, bolters, auto cannon, plasma cannon, assault cannon. The Chaos versions of these will be mutated or wapred by Chaos in some way and are covered in the codex.

Actually I think most of those are directly available to Chaos too with the exception of the Sniper Rifle and Assault Cannon. And the Auto Cannon is a Reaper Auto Cannon. At least that's the way things were back when I collected those. Don't remember 'bout the marks though...

As said, check the codex!

Well, first of all: these figures are, without an exception, chaos. Blood Angels are a royalist chapter, so while you obviuosly can paint them red (or any other color) calling them blood angels would cause a lot of irritation, especially sinde there is an official blood angel codex and a whole linke of minis for them.
Weapon-wise, the majority of rank and file chaos marines are armed with boltguns or bolt pistol and chainsword. Some can carry special weapons (melta, flamer, plasmagun) or heavy weapons(heavy bolter, autocannon, rocket launcher, others i dont remeber right now). Each unit (5 to 10 men) has one special and one heavy. A unit of chaos marines can also have a champion who carries special close combat weapons (Powerclaw, Power sword, plasma pistol etc). One chaos marine also carries a chaos icon. Chaos terminators (the bulky guys) carry combi-boltguns, combi-weapons, power claws or heavy weapons (autocannon) For more detail, I strongly recomend you guy codex:chaos marines. it has all the info about troop organization, men and weapon piont cost and so on. Without it, you might easily guild a force tha is not legal in game terms and ripping off parts from your painted minis is painful. Oh, and the guy on the bottom is abbadon, the supreme ruler of chaos and a mighty dude. He carries a deamonsword and a power claw with an attacher combi boltgun. By the way, the painted figures look fine.

As Micha says, easiest thing to do is pick up the Codex:Chaos Space Marines book - that will tell you exactly what you can and can't have for each type of model.
You will find however that Chaos are really quite flexible, so you don't have to have set numbers of guys in a squad, or have them all armed exactly the same, which is quite nice. You can also keep them quite clean, or go to town and make them really nasty, and it all works in Chaos! :)

Not quite supreme ruler of chaos though, but he did unite a LOT of chaos to form the black crusades which invaded imperial space. Here's the full fig:

The claw was Horus' and it's believed that he is Horus' gene clone - or something like that
